My new birds are at the Philly PO and I hope they will make it to Pottstown sometime today. Here is a pic the seller sent. I tried to get this to rotate. It's upright on my computer, but BYC wants to put it on it's side. Anyway, look at how long the feathers on his hackle and saddle are. I wanted these for a long time. Hopefully I will have their babies for sale someday.
Wow, he is gorgeous!
Would anybody like a free goose and a duck? I don't think I can take them on since they would need friends and a diffferent habitat. Bucks County Pickup area.

I'm pretty sure I've mapped out how far away you are like 10 times hopping that one of these times it'll be shorter because I love the midget turkeys. Still 6 hours ):
. Well of you ever decide to take a trip east, I'll be ready!

I'm so sad. I'm pretty sure I will be coming home to a dead turkey today. My female that had been injured in mating started to not look good last night, wings dropped and all. Come to think of it, she seemed confused, like she couldn't find her way into the coop, or didn't want to.

I put her Jn a dog crate in the coop to keep her isolated for observation. This morning, before I left, she was laying down, eyes closed, legs splayed under her. I checked her wound, and it looked very dark but not oozing. I think she had taken a dustbath and got dirt in it, so I suspect infection. I put a heavy amount of tea tree oil on the wound and put het back. But I know what is coming. :(

He is stunning! What breed is that?

I'm so sorry :( I feel bad that I haven't had the chance to pick up more denim to make a turkey saddle yet. I hope she pulls through for you. Poor girl :(

Also picked up my meat chicks yesterday. They gave me an extra, but they all seem to be doing very well. I think I will put all the chicks together in a couple of days. I used the heating blanket brooder method. They love it! Amazing!

Looks nice. I used heating pad last time and really liked it. I used kitchen shelf as the frame, which I would like to change for the next time. Ann, what did you used to make the frame? I like the way it curved and low on their backs.

We are in a processing of buying a new house, which should be closed on June 2. I plan to buy a small shed as my coop. Our limitation of number of poultry is 10 total, so I cannot go too crazy about the chickens. I still travel 80% of my time, so I'm debating if I should wait until next year when I don't travel too much to get my chickens. I do want to social with them a lot when they are babies, so they will be as friendly as my last group. But with my current schedule, I can only see them less than 7 days per month. Hubby has no interesting on playing with baby chicks everyday.

Excellent! I hope those eggs all hatch. Some will be black, but they will all carry lavender and silkied and I like the size, color and shape of those eggs much better than the eggs my pure silkied Ams lay. Those pullets lay better too, I sometimes get 5 eggs from the 5 pullets, whereas 3 eggs from the 12 silkieds is a good day. All in all, I'm thinking this outcross to the Blehm lines will make a huge improvement in the line.
Sounds like Aurora will have very nice selection of Ameracauna next year. Too bad that I cannot have any roo. These lavender Ameracauna roos are very neat.

If able you may want to get some penicillin injectable and give her a shot asap. Wash out the wound and otherwise provide the TLC you already do so well...scrambled eggs with a few drops of Nutridrench, maybe a bit of brown sugar sprinkled on top. Quality protein foods to help her rebuild...

If she isn't drinking you may have to syringe her, or tube feed her water for the first day. It seems a scary thought to do the tube feedings but they actually are rather simple. Tractor Supply sells the bigger syringes (you will need about a 20-30cc) and the should have some tubing which will fit over the tip of the syringe (about the size of the air hoses used in fish tanks).
There are numerous threads on BYC about it.

It's just a piece of welded wire fencing, cut down to a 12x12 size and curved. Check out Blooie's page on it. Just search heating pad brooder, and her page is the first to come up. I'm so glad I decided to use it! I was a little concerned leaving today for a few hours in case they got too warm, but hopefully they are smart enough to sneak out when they are hot.

She was formally broody, but now my other one has gone broody. I'm really hoping the turkey chick that hatched is a female.

Unfortunately, I am stuck at the hospital for the next few hours. My dad is having an out patient surgery, so I won't be able to check her for a while. I doubt she will last that long. If I had known she was so bad last night, I would have intervened. I think I was distracted by the chicks hatching also.

I am very sorry, you must be so frustrated... I hope your Dad does well with his surgery :hugs
