Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I haven't had one of those yet. The last roo I had nearly killed my favorite hen from over-mating her. He would chase them across the road, and I had enough of it and got rid of him. The 3 young ones I have now are already attacking the hens so I don't think they will be around for long.

I'm so jealous! I want Oliver! I really wanted that typical rooster you see on farms growing up. You know, the orange head, red body, black tail. I'm not sure what breed but man I want one for eye candy on my farm.
That would be a Welsummer. The ones I have roaming around the farm are never mean to people and they seem good with the hens. They are not a heavy breed, but very tall and imposing to the smaller predators. I recommend them to customers looking for a good flock roo. One told a story of seeing a small hawk swoop down and attack a pullet. She heard a terrible squawk and saw her Welsummer roo charging full speed, bearing down on the hawk with his wings flapping. The hawk decided to beat a very hasty retreat from that guy. I can only imagine how frightening that would be if you were the size of the hawk.
Very satisfying to watch too. I love to watch the roos interact with their hens. I have to think those hens adore their guy, the way they rush to his side when he calls them.

I seriously sat and watched my broody and her babies for at least a half an hour. Candled the remaining eggs. 4 were no good but three still look like they'll hatch. Going to leave them in trailer where they are till they all hatch and then move them into a grow out pen with mom.

2 days to hatch. Niko is such a nice tempered broody. She gets all fluffy when I open up the lid, but she lets me lift her off the eggs to do an egg count. Because I have to count them. Because she steals more throughout the whole process. But she does not peck at me or even do much growling.

Man I would love to have a good rooster someday. You're right, the breed of rooster I'm thinking of is a welsummer. Gorgeous! The last roo I had was a BO, and he was very protective of his girls but he thought people were threats too. Any time we were outside, he would come attack us unprovoked. Didn't matter how hard we kicked him or swung a branch at him, he never stopped. The last straw was when he attacked my 2 year old son. Then he was dinner.

I have no idea. I think she's just a mix Bantam. I have her sister thats identical. Freckle and Mole.

So I'm up tonight and I'm obsessing over my idea of a dream barn. I would love to have a regular 6 or 8 stall horse barn and set it up for chickens. I would keep them in separate flocks and alternate free-ranging days so the roosters don't fight with each other, if necessary. Then I could also have a couple donkeys or cows. :)

I just can't seem to find many images of horse barns used for chickens, or barns without a hayloft. Hm.

Don't you just love those sweet tempered broodies that trust you :) My Ana is like that too and when I bring out food or treats and call them, she brings her babies right to me to see what I have lol. She might puff up a little for show but that's it. Her last baby loved to be held while she was still mothering him and is still very friendly now.

Wow! Children and I would love to home
I have 13 little Bantam roos I dont know what to do with too. Most are actually super friendly and I love having them but its way too many. Hoping I can find homes for them.
the unwanted roosters:) only prOblem is that I'm sure they are to far away from Lebanon county:) my children love our bachelor pad and spend lots of time with our birds. They are so sad when we lose any! :) And so excited when we find add ons:) Ok. ... Sorry about this mixed up reply. No clue what I did. I can't get on to this new system yet. Esp aggravating is how it keeps shutting off. Lol.
