having a hard time using the new format, I put my latest broody out with the other girls yesterday, they are only 2 weeks old but momma was going nuts. They have been in a coup within a coop so they could all see each other since birth.

Since I have a TON of turkey and duck eggs laying around, I decided to bake a bunch of stuff and freeze it for later. So far, I've done a quadruple batch of chocolate chip cookies, 2 pound cakes, and 2 loaves of banana bread. I overcooked one of the pounds cakes so we're eating that one lol. Next up is a big batch of peanut butter cookies, followed by snickerdoodles I think. I will need to do some brownies too sometime. There are still 33 eggs to use up lol.

Broody update: Ana has decided that the other girls are totally unworthy and that nobody can compare to her in her ability to raise babies. She has stolen ALL of them! She has 7 little ones following her all over the coop. Angel is interested in helping but Ana won't let her. What a crazy mama!

Wild turkey egg update: lockdown started today. I saw it still wiggling in there, I just hope that it's strong enough to hatch!

2 extra roos have recieved a pardon and are heading to a new home today. I've been bugging hubby to help me get them butchered for a week or so now, we've just been busy. So they get to move on to a new home now instead. That leaves only 3 for us to do now, unless someone decides they want some Ayam cemani culls...

Girl! Send me your turkey eggs and I will hatch them out! I'm pretty sure there is a decent demand for turkeys around here... Come on little wild turkey! You can do it! You should give him/ her a Native American name, since it's a wild one.

I seriously sat and watched my broody and her babies for at least a half an hour. Candled the remaining eggs. 4 were no good but three still look like they'll hatch. Going to leave them in trailer where they are till they all hatch and then move them into a grow out pen with mom.

I love watching my broodies! If I didn't have so many projects, I'd be out there all the time. I am amazed at how she teaches them. This time in particular I have noticed, even though I put a feeder out, she always teaches them how to find their own food. She first shows them how to scratch and peck for goodies.

to anne in the burg, three s's, use a BB gun that shot 800fps, quiet, effective--

I would consider it, except for the fact that the owner is in the hospital dealing with a bone infection, for a year. Poor thing has enough on her plate right now. I will just keep them confined to an area for now.

Amazingly my Silkie chicken is still alive, and this morning she was eating! I am shocked. The other day, she was lying on her side, lifeless, when I came home from work. I went over to pick her up thinking she was dead, and she got up but was not good obviously. She still isn't her usual self, but she is eating drinking and pooping. Her poops look more normal today as well, and she is standing up just fine. Maybe she ate a bad mushroom or something? Who knows. I have her in cozy dog crate where she can rest. Time will tell...

Love the native American name idea. You guys will have to help me come up with one once he/she hatches. Unless the neighbor wants him to raise since he found the egg :/

I should've sent them to you but now they're getting old. I doubt they'd have any chance of hatching now since they're about 3 weeks old lol. The girls are giving me next to none now. They were giving me a few a day, just a couple days ago. Now a couple are molting and a couple are threatening to try to sit.

Banty left three eggs in nest and took off!! What do I do. One already has beak out looking at me but been that way for over 4 hours. Trying to get them warm but dont know what to do after. Another one has internally pipped. Not sure about the last.

Can you slip them under another hen or duck that's still sitting that might be due? You may need to help the one that's externally pipped already. Chances are that the membrane is going to glue to him/her if it's been pipped for 4 hours without being covered.

The one which has externally pipped I would tuck in your bra for a few hours to give it a bit of time to finish absorbing it's yolk then assist as necessary, the other 2 I would put in a shoe box on a folded towel with a heat lamp suspended over it at a height to allow the eggs to be around 100 degrees. Moistened paper towels under the eggs can add a little humidity but without an incubator to provide better moisture control you will probably end up assisting to avoid shrink wrap problems.

Okay I moved the one that hadn't pipped out under broody chicken but shes tiny and I'm not sure how many she can handle? I have the internally pipped one in a box with heating pad on bottom, then wet paper towel then egg and paper towel and heatlamp. Im at 98°. The external pipped i chipped away shell in a circle and have been wetting the membrane. Shes still vocal for most part. Im not sure if I'm supposed to help with membrane. It was very bright white and there was no blood when i chipped schell. Hoping I haven't screwed it up. Thought I was ready for this but instead I started freaking out.
