I finally checked this hatchery out. Are you normally happy with the birds you get?
You need to have a different approach to buy from Sand Hill. It is much different that a regular commercial hatchery. The couple that run this do it as a labor of love to get rare breeds out there. There are many breeds that they are the only possible source for (Scots Dumpies, Frizzled Sumatra, etc). You must order early and be prepared to get them anytime they have them available. It is certainly not too early to order for 2018.
The chicks seem very healthy. I am super happy with the Mille Fleur Leghorns. I have quad of these out on grass and I think they are going to be really popular with my customers next year.
If there are breeds you really want from there, PM me, I might be able to get them for you this year, as I still have other shipments coming.

2 hours away. That's a long drive.... If I can't find anything closer, would you consider shipping?
I have had poor results with shipped eggs. It is a lot of trouble and expense for very few live chicks/ducklings.
Where are you? I was thinking you were in the Lancaster area, but that is less than an hour away. My PA geography is not very good.

Okay who out there are missed out on the hatching season and needs a starter flock? I have two cockerels and six pullets ready to go. feathered out. Ready to go into coop. Give me a holler. they are sired by Light Sussex over Leghorn hens. Should be good layers. Letting them go cheap, just let me know. Good diversity for line-breeding.

I'm driving to Stroudsburg on Sunday to drop my kiddo at camp. Perhaps I can help transport?
