  • You need to have a different approach to buy from Sand Hill. It is much different that a regular commercial hatchery. The couple that run this do it as a labor of love to get rare breeds out there. There are many breeds that they are the only possible source for (Scots Dumpies, Frizzled Sumatra, etc). You must order early and be prepared to get them anytime they have them available. It is certainly not too early to order for 2018.
The chicks seem very healthy. I am super happy with the Mille Fleur Leghorns. I have quad of these out on grass and I think they are going to be really popular with my customers next year.
If there are breeds you really want from there, PM me, I might be able to get them for you this year, as I still have other shipments coming.
  • I've been reading over all their info and I'm interested in doing one of their mixed options. I think we're done with babies other then our meaties for the year but will probably put an order in for next year. Haven't even made it through the list of what they have yet.

So I am not what you would call a crafty person, so I am very proud of my handmade chicken art, and wanted to share it!

Funny you should mention starter flocks...I just told my sister not to buy any birds for her first flock, I have 8-10 birds from 8-14 months that I can give her. I have more than I need and these are all good birds but not breeds I plan to keep in the future. I am trying to reduce down to mostly Plymouth Rocks, and primarily whites and silver pencils.
Hopefully someone else needs a good starter flock and can help you out though. I imagine that mix of breeds would produce a nice egging bird.

Oh wow lol. I wish you would've got more pullets.
Would always be nice to get a better ratio of pullets but no biggie. I just wanted chicks to keep the hen happy and I wanted a couple of blue eggers, so worked out fine. They are beggars though, lol.
