We have finally bought our own place... we are headed north... pm me and I will give the new address...I expect to see Fisherlady at my doorstep.. No animals at this time due to the move but will need to restock in the spring.

Great to hear from you and awesome news! If you're moving near Fisherlady them you're not far from me either :)

Congratulations!
Now where could she get some poultry . . . . .

Nope no trimming on those feathers! Already found that out beforehand thankfully. Next on my list is to get my Standard of Perfection, membership with the APA, and then legbands (and then the testing after that). I hope I'm not missing anything, ugh it seems like it's quite the process... I'm just not too sure if I should get my birds tested or not. Cause my oldest are going to be 4 months old on the 28th, but my youngest aren't going to hit that mark until October.
Exciting! Each Show has their own testing requirements, they are listed in the Premium Booklet. Most shows require testing for AI and/or Pullorum, usually within 30 days of the show. The CPT who comes out to draw the blood will know how many birds and which ones should be tested, they should also put PDA leg bands on the birds.

I can't wait till I have more experience. Ive read about every sickness there is but its so hard to know whats actually wrong. I have a girl thats molting and I think has vent gleak? She wont stand really but eats and drinks and is very alert. When I Gave her a bath she had white stuff leaking from her butt. I don't think shes egg bound but I haven't had one that was egg bound so I'm not completely sure what I'm looking for. Her crop was completely empty this morning. Was planning on worming everyone this month but I have no evidence of them. Gave her a bath, some nutridrench, scrambled eggs and acv in her water. Going to get some stuff I read helps tomorrow. I have her in house right now in a cage. Been at work all night but hoping she looks better then before I left.

Sorry, sometimes when it rains, it pours. A member, SallySunshine has a very good article on Vent Gleet, just do a quick search. How is your girl doing today?

I have 6 healthy babies. Of 13, 1 was clear, 3 were early quitters, 2 eggs that I gave my duck were destroyed (won't be doing that again), 7 hatched but 1 died after hatch. 2 of the 6 have white toes so they'll be sold. So I have 4 hopefuls lol.

ETA: I got your check yesterday, thank you!

That sounds promising! I think only one AC egg is going to develop. The one was not fertile, or never started, and the other is not looking right, but I put it back in there as a precaution. Had to toss a couple other quitters, but that's to be expected with shipping. I'm glad I have two broodies willing to raise them for me! I just have to get out there and put together a separate broody house.

I was trying to think of how many layers I have, because things will be very tight here in my large coop. The turkey are small now, but they will be big girls and boys soon. and those little CCL roos that I am trying to grow out for meat are crowing already! Little boogers. I think I may keep them confined separately so I can fatten them up.

How did you accomplish this coexistence?? My new puppy continues to chase chickens that escape. She had my two tiniest chicks pinned to the ground today.

I did no formal training with my rescue dog, but I watched a ton of The Dog Whisperer show, with Cesar Millan. I used his techniques to de-sensitize her to my chicks I first started. Here is the basic breakdown of what I did:

I first put the chicks in a separate bedroom, and put up a baby gate in the doorway. This way the dog can smell, see and hear the chicks. If she came towards the doorway and was excited, I commanded her to go away. When she had calmed I asked her to come the baby gate. If she displayed any excitement, such as ears perked up, protruding chest, etc. she was not allowed to be anywhere near them. When she was calm, I removed the baby gate and called her into the room with the chicks (who were secured in a brooder box. I worked with her also with holding the chicks when she was in the room. She quickly learned to respect the chicks and remain calm around them. I only had to do that in the beginning, and she knows now that all poultry is a a part of her pack.

I will add, that she was an adult, was well behaved and respectful before I started the chicken training. She does not jump on furniture, beg excessively, etc. I imagine it will be more difficult if you have a puppy, and if that puppy doesn't trust you yet. Watch some Cesar Millan and best of luck. I am eternally grateful, my dog runs around with (not at) my chickens, chicks and turkeys, people are always amazed.

So glad you got settled dear! Hope for all the best for you in your new home.

We'll try the AC again next spring and I'll get some more to you if these ones don't hatch. Maybe chicks along the chicken train?

My coop is realy rather tight at the moment. I have a lot of grow outs just waiting to get big enough to see who stays and who goes plus a bunch of cockerels, just waiting to be big enough for the freezer. Good luck fattening up those CCL! They don't get very fat lol.
