Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Paper towels are great for the firs few days. That's what I used. Only put down shavings this morning.
I agree, for the first week, I line the brooder with newspapers and cover that with a single layer of paper towel. The first feed goes in the paper towel where it is easy to find. After a week they are eating well and have a good idea of the difference in taste between food and shavings, then it is safe to put them on shavings. Honestly, for a few chicks I would switch out the paper and not use shavings for 2 or 3 weeks.

Speaking of shavings . . .
If anyone in the Chester Co area wants to get a supply of cheap shavings for bedding, Pughtown Agway has a brand the horse people didn't like, but I think works great. They have too much of it and are selling it to me for $3 a bale (about half price). If you tell them you are "Dennis' friend and want the $3 shavings" they will give you the same deal.

I actuary remembered to lock down my eggs this week  . There are 2 seramas and 2 sumo wrestlers (CX outcross) due on Friday :) Here's are the ones from last Friday that hatched in the cabinet. They're the big fat yellow ones. These were taken the day they hatched.

If only I were closer :/

Lelanae that's fantastic!! I actually haven't sold the rest of them yet. Someone was supposed to come down and pick up the other 3 but she never showed or got back in touch, honestly hope she's okay... she sounded super interested.

Ohhh god I completely understand about trying to rescue literally every animal. That's us right here. It started with one ferret, now we're on 11 ferrets and we've only bought 2 of them, the rest were rescues.

Omg omg Anne!! I can't wait to see them!! We're actually going into lockdown today (I'm so freaking nervous) thankfully @LeBlackbird stayed over last night so she's gonna give me a hand with the eggs this morning. :fl Just hoping for a full hatch! I only have 3!!

I wish we lived closer, I would love the chickens and the ferrets! We had one when I was a teen and then two more when my kids were babies. I regret rehoming the last 2 we had, we only did that because they were biting my son and pooping everywhere, not in corners like the first one did.

Congratulations! I still can't get over how tough yet fragile chickens are.

IT'S HAPPENING!!!!! The middle egg is wiggling around like a...a... I don't exactly know. The best analogy I have is actually a pokemon egg about to hatch. Go figure....

Still. IT's happening!!!

:celebrate:wee:lau

It's so much fun isn't it?!

I have a horse and $3 shavings are always a good thing! I just don’t know if it’s worth the trip down there to save on bedding for the chickens.

They look great! It would be interesting to compare their growth to the 'average' chicks by pictures for 4 to 6 weeks...bet their size will really show that way...
