Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I try to sell eating eggs when I can but the problem is is that the girls are on strike! Yesterday I only got one blasted egg out of them. I do have some Ameraucana hatching eggs that Dennis gave me and Susan this week but I have to check with her to see what she wants to do first before I try and do anything with them since we were planning on hatching them out.

It kinda sucks that I only have one group of laying hens right now and they're just not working out as well as I'd hoped. I love my wyandotte girls but they're almost a year old and they've pretty much said "Screw you!" on eggs. Not to mention my roo isn't exactly the greatest. I know he's jumping the girls but I had 9 eggs in the incubator and all of them were clears!! :rant UGH! I just really want to get everything running smoothly and figured out.

Now if only my blasted Gander would mount his girlfriend....
Well my weekend faded to other things anyway. I had construction stuff delivered this morning to finish my unconventional crazy coop extension but there's an ice storm coming that is already knocking power out north of here. Calls in the 'bator and chicks in the brooder. Always complications!

That's strange your girls are still on strike. How many hens do you have? I have 11 and they laid about 3 eggs a day through winter, but then I finally got 9 from them yesterday. They lay a whole lot more when it's warmer. I sell eggs for $2 a dozen and that makes up for the cost in feed.

But in order to have more money, you're better off not having any chickens at all!

I have 8 hens and 3 ducks and nobody's laying anything. I went in today and there was nothing. Now I do need to get them more feed but even when I was feeding them regularly and we didn't have any issues with that it was nothing!

The broodies are all very happy around here today. I had 4 cockerels hatch overnight last night so Pebbles (turkey) got 2 and Ana got 2 this morning. Both girls are in heaven! I candeled Ebony's (muscovy duck) last egg last night and the air cell has drawn down so it won't be long for her either. I just don't remember at all when I gave her eggs lol.

Huh, maybe they have an egg hiding spot?

My chickens have full bowls of food and water in the coop and outside. They free range sun up to sun down. There isn't anything extra I'm doing to get them to lay but they are laying much better now that it's getting warmer.

I hope yours will lay more soon!

Maybe Ana will get busy laying eggs now after a few weeks of playing mommy... We have 2 pencils with chicks and now more are parked. Beginning to think somewhere in their family history someone snuck a silkie into their breeding. Silly birds think it is their job to repopulate the chicken world.

Maybe but Ana never lays for long. With the about of eggs she lays each year, she'll be laying the same amount when she's 10 lol. They really do think it's their job to repopulate the world!

Im surprised I don’t have more broodis yet. But I think the turkeys are such bullies that the girls don’t feel as safe. I’m sure they will eventually. Especially when I get the turkey coop built!

Well, poo. I came out this morning and one of the broodies chicks was lying on its side, dying. I saw it yesterday looking like it was sneezing and breathing through it’s mouth, but I thought it had just eaten the dry food too fast. She was one of the Welbars, which I really hoped to have more of. I have one other Welbar chick left.

One of he other chicks looks like it trying to clear it airway, sneezin pg and shaking it’s head. I wonder if they got into something poisonous?

And my Cocci chick is dying, I’m sure. I tried to dropper feed her the medication as @Auroradream26 suggested, but I think it may have been too late. :hit

I think I’m going to eat some chocolate and sit on the couch now...
