So my Amerucanas from Dennis are roughly 4 months old . When will the boys crow? They all have what I would call pullet posture....two have a little more going on crest wise...

dennis, do you know anything about the breda's? i picked up four sunday and know nothing about them:idunno
I have some friends with a flock of Breda Fowl. They really like them but I consider the roosters to inclined to be people-aggressive, and the hens are poor layers of off white eggs. They are extremely rare, probably because they have few redeeming qualities and so few people keep them for long.

i was told they were rare in the us by the friend that i bought them from, i was told that they didn't have combs so were cold weather chickens and had lots of foot feathers, i love the brahma's but none close by of the color i wanted so thought i would try these. THANKS for the information, guess if i don't like them i can always eat them and then keep looking for something i like. forgot was also told there were only three people that had them in the us, your friends must be one of them, i only bought four since i couldn't sex them yet, babies, three splash and one blue

Where did you buy the electric fence from? Are they very expensive?
Your post made me think maybe to use our chicken tractor close to trees, then ring a tree with portable fencing to safely let the chickens out for restricted foraging. Whenever we have had a hawk attack it has been out in the open field.

We plan to just get a premier 1 fence just the fence, for now, we aren't interested in it being electric but will have the option for later if we feel the need. It's $178 for a 42" by 164' fence. Kinda pricey but again if we choose to make it electric later we have the option and only have to buy the energizer. Tractor Supply has cheaper poultry nets but from what I saw they were chicken wire type material and that's not what I was looking for. You also have to buy the T-Posts if you choose to go with the cheaper fencing.

THat sounds like a good plan. Why are you going for the 42" rather than the 48" option? Are most of yours Orpingtons and Wyandottes? I read that if you have flighty birds like Legbars then there's a chance you might have to get into wing clipping to keep them in. Are you buying straight off the Premier1 website? It looks cheaper than Amazon and has free delivery.

The "chicken netting" is $147, but only single spike.

Double spike "poultry netting" for $194

I see the YouTuber Justin Rhodes relies heavily on these Premier1 electric fences for all his livestock. They fences really keep animals in and allow his chickens to till up different areas of his land.

We do currently have Orpingtons and Wyandottes! I'm glad you said that bc we are going to be expanding our flock here soon thank you :)

There are more than 3 people, but probably not a lot more. They are "super rare" and unlikely to become popular. I hatched some for a customer that is likely to start breeding them locally, so if you like them and need more for any reason, let me know. These are blue/black/splash, but some carrying the mottled gene, they are hoping for a blue mottled at some point.

I've been working with the Marans thread to pick out a keeper from my abundance of boys. Looks like one came out on top :) Hercules gets the honor!

I also made a little trip the other day to meet up with @Nate Akeley and traded a couple Seramas ladies for this set little thing. Boy or girl, I've been dying for a blrw.

This springs keeper chicks are growing fast. I have 5 silkie feathered lavender ameraucanas doing well and getting fluffy and lots of silkies and Seramas. I have a few extra splash silkie and Serama chicks if anyone would like any.
