So what do we get when we cross our 6 lb silver pencil rock hens with our 12 lb white rock roosters???
9 lb monster broodies who have taken to raising babies like it was in their genes!
They all sat in separate boxes, but as soon as they were put into the same area after they had their chicks they followed in their mama's footsteps and opted to co-brood the chicks. Guess we should be happy they waited till 8 months to brood instead of 6 months like their moms tended to, lol. View attachment 1638131

In other news... we had a buff orpington chick who just wasn't growing good in the coop. The broody finally cut them loose at 8 or 9 weeks so we brought in the little one and 2 buddies to keep it company. Of course Mindy has been claimed as favored nurse maid. If she lays down to soak up the sun they are quick to follow.... View attachment 1638139 View attachment 1638140

All 3 were on her back before that 2nd pic, but one hopped off when I was grabbing the camera. Will have to keep it more handy while they are in here.
Right now they are lounging on hubby's chair, good thing I covered it with towels!

Those babies are awesome!
9 lbs?!...yeah man! I really like their feather patterns. They came out looking really nice.

Love, Love, Love your fur babe pics!...animals are so very predictably-unpredictable, natural predators, ie.dogs, becoming house mommas, so cool.

Those chicks look VERY comfortable Fisher...may have a hard time making the move to the coop

I think my little fur babes wouldn't be so ...whats the word...kind?, but who knows.
Ana, (our mamma-female) & Caesar, (passed 2018), were very good with the baby turkey we had brought in because it wasn't doing well.
It passed away, but those two dogs sat/laid at the little box-area with it until it had left.
