Talk about cold that hurts! It's down to -4 now. I just got done checking on everyone and gathering food dishes. Everyone seems to be doing fine. Even the Seramas have figured out what to do. Can you find all 3?

@Auroradream26 love the pictures! You knew Ana would pick the worst time to go broody of course, lol. Sure seems those pencils make wonderful co-broodies.
I am at work today, started at 0700 Thursday morn and on till 0700 Friday morning... I knew it was going to be a long day when I saw this on the way to work....

But it was a heat wave at 4 degrees by late morning, lol.

Yikes! That's cold! I'm ready for the heat wave that's coming this weekend!

Ana has never been one to share eggs, a nest, or chicks but maybe because she's sharing with a turkey that makes it different? I don't know lol. We'll see how it goes!
 
So far, I have 5 cochin bantam chicks hatched from the pen with lavender pullets and a black frizzle roo. The 2 oldest are about 12 days old now and clearly both are frizzles (statistically, 50% should be frizzle and the rest smooth feathered) !!:wee

Now, if only both would be pullets . . . .

No losses yesterday from the cold, unless you count frozen eggs, but I can live with that.
 
First, I underestimated how much oil it takes to keep the house above runny nose. In this weather, it’s about ten gallons a day for the average house to stay at 68*. My house is not well insulated, so I keep it cooler in order to not waste oil. I cannot believe I made it two weeks. <sigh> Unfortunately, I didn’t know all this until it was too late. I’m on the delivery list, but it will probably be Monday. Too bad it couldn’t have held out one more day!
The chicks are still dealing with dirty bums. They don’t have too much heat, but I cannot remember the feed/vitamin issue that can cause it too. Does anyone remember?
I knew yesterday that one cockerel had slipped through the sexing test. When cleaning bums, it was more obvious. He’s so much heavier! Funny thing is, I cannot tell if he’s a Welsummer. I know chicks were in the wrong bins, so it’s probable that I grabbed only one Welsummer. I need to decide what to do about him. It’s easier to kill him now.

the chick standing in the center of your pic looks a bit stoic also..hahaha, like, "are you lookin' at me?" the chick to the front -right looks the way I feel, would be nice to be able to fold into myself..might stay warmer!:hmm
sorry to hear about your heating issues.:hugs Do you have any space heaters or ??? your probably already using them if you do, duh!:rolleyes:...it is supposed to "warm" up over the weekend , I know that doesn't help much in the entirety of things.
your doing right by those chicks, keeping butts clean so they can continue to poo & not get blockages. Have you tried probotics in their water? Just a thought, might help.:idunno.
I hope they are able to deliver oil sooner for you.:hugs
