Will you be there until 1:00pm? My son likes the Apple and corn harvest saddle and wants one for his chickens. The last swap of the year is tomorrow morning. It's going to be a cold one! Great article Dennis, thanks for sharing! Vaccines really scare me, especially Marek’s, because I had a guaranteed vaccinated hatchery Brahma chick die last year of a deformative Marek’s strain (she was the shape and size of a tennis ball at 9 1/2 weeks), and while caring for her I got sick. It might have been a coincidence, but with Marek’s evolving so fast you really never know. It is a herpes virus after all...I am looking into vaccinating next year. I HATE needles, but a friend has a "gun" to vaccinate chicks, similar to what hatcheries use. Looks like a good project for next year.
For a rather scary analysis if the vaccines, read this: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/science/tthis-chicken-vaccine-makes-virus-dangerous
That is Virginia Creeper. I don't know if they are edible, but I would guess not. It's is fairly easy to kill by pulling it up if you don't want it, but not a bad plant as long as it does not promote rotting in the wood it covers. Are these actually blueberries or just wild berries?

Herpes viruses are everywhere (chicken pox is a herpes virus, so you likely have living herpes in your body since childhood). They tend to be highly species specific, for example chicken herpes (Mareks) does not seem to affect pheasants, though most taxonomists regard chickens as a form of pheasant (red jungle fowl). Turkey Mareks will infect chickens, but not cause symptoms in either (making it a popular choice for a vaccine and the source of the idea that raising chicks with turkeys helps protect them).Great article Dennis, thanks for sharing! Don’t worry about it. He was upset and told grandma about how I messed up his day. Grandma gave him about 10 different fancy “chicken customs”. And he was so happy. She made these for her decoration duck and they are perfect for chickens too. I will take some pictures when I put them on the chickens. They are really lovely.Sorry, there's no signal there and I never got your message. We were there but hardly anyone showed up so we left around 11:30-ish. I guess there was a big swap in Middleburg(?) And most of our usual vendors went there. Pm me your address and I'll send him one![]()
