Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Happy summer, hope no one is melting. Refresh my memory of who is who and where you are from.

I am not on much since moving, just no time.
I'm Lee, but I don't think you know me. I had chickens from Dennis 5 years ago, then had to move to NY. Moved back to central PA and restarted my flock last year.

Got broodies?

Hello. My silkie supposed-to-be pullet started to crow. Now the township says he must go.

I'm not far from the Pittsburgh airport and am willing to drive some to get him to you. We'd like to find him a good home quickly if we can.

Hatched on 3/30/21 and came to us by way of TSC on 4/2. He should be 15 weeks on Tuesday 7/13.

He found a new forever home!!!!

My Genetic Hackle hens were doing that for a while. Egg production dropped to almost nothing as the contagion ran it's course. I removed all the nest boxes and a few sat around for a few days, then went back to laying, now I'm getting almost as many eggs are early spring, but the fertility is low, I guess the roosters are hot and lazy.

Five days after we integrated the flock, my four pullets still haven't figured out where to sleep at night. They cluster together at the top of the ramp, but won't go inside the coop. I don't know if they're just nervous, or if the older hens won't let them in. It's not a big deal with the weather so warm, but I just wonder. The last batch got settled pretty quickly, and there's plenty of room in there. Should I physically place them inside?

Duckling was in the main/SPR coop. She just stood there, watching as a hen kept covering the chick each time it ran out of under her. I was busy in the other section, so I missed it. Duckling was impressed by how good the mom was for protecting the baby from the mean predator.
