First, my electric bill is four times its usual usage this month. I’m guessing it was the air conditioner. Did anyone else have a big change this month?
I was getting some mowing done before it rains again, and saw this behind the coop.

What critter do you suspect? I’m thinking I’ll set the trap tonight, but tomorrow (because if something is under there right now, I don’t want it to stay there) I plan on finding the bricks that belong there, and laying down wire.

Yep, our electric bills jumped significantly, we blamed AC also.

As for your unwanted digger, I am betting groundhog, though rats are a less likely culprit also.

Duckling said she saw another Phil. That is actually a relief. I will start my own season forecasting company!
I am glad that you have reassured me about the air conditioning. I will obviously have to keep it off a lot more. I don’t know why I feel so hot this year other than the humidity. Last year I think I used it three times. It’s 79* in here now, and I’m dying. The birds seem fine though.

If you have a basement door accessible from the inside of your house I suggest opening it far enough to place a box fan in it blowing into your 1st floor, then go upstairs and place a box fan or window fan in an upstairs window blowing out. It may not result in a great temperature drop but it should help with the hot and sticky feeling. If you dont have a basement you can still do same by figuring out which side of your house is in shade most of the day (should be north side) and put a fan in a window on that side blowing in, and again put 2nd fan in upstairs window blowing out.
You want to create a chimney effect with the warm air raising/blowing out and pulling fresh air in from cooler area.
