My kids want to too. But we have to get a few chickens just for showing. I don't even know what to get.....

Something that was suggested to me.....

Go to a show and let your kids choose what they want! Then you can either go to the sale area or come back here. Lots of breeders here with show quality birds.

I am getting my little girl 2 white silkie pullets for Christmas (shhhhhh!) because that is what she loves more than all others. I will be breeding my son a splash bantam orpington to start on (he really wants to show JG!!)

Since I'm in it for the eggs, I'm thinking leghorns or Rhode Island Reds. Maybe Sex-Links. Leaning towards the Reds, since Leghorns are kinda boring to look at. Any egg laying powerhouses that I can get locally. I'll be ready around late Feb, early March. I'd like to just start with hens, instead of chicks, pullets would be ok too. Preferably some hens that were together already, so they'll get along. I guess around that time, maybe somebody here can steer me to a local place with a few hens for sale. I usually see them on craigslist for sale also.

Myy Seramas just started laying. After I get situated and centered in our new place, i am gonna try hatching some of my serama eggs. thet are only about the size of . . . .two grapes put together, cute, small

sorry i have been away for sooo long, or at least it seems. Unpacking and trying to get situated in our new home, I dont think the work is ever gonna end.

..it does take awhile to get settled in. been here 1 & 1/2yrs and still have stuff in boxes...

, don't even remember what's in most of them..must not be too important..

Are the Andalusian cold hardy being from Spain/Mediterranean? They are very beautiful birds..

Look whose puffy!! Negro is drinking and eating. I moved he/she to the brooder because he/she is walking around and burning its head on the heat tubing of the incubator. Negro is crazy active. I put rocks in his/her water guided the beak to it and now he/she keeps going back drinking on its own. I put the food in also and Negro was eating some crumble. We have washed and sanitized but considering that Negro is nearly 2 days EARLY, and moving and running-I'm taking the call on that he/she will be fine.

Took its first poop also! Yah!!
