Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Okay, 88 PAGES PEOPLE!?!? Man! LOL!! I'll be back, just needed to post this for sally then I'm running out for those pallets and layer feed for sandy because their previous owner said that she is getting eggs from that hatch now, which means I'll be seeing my first eggs soon!! WAHOO!!! Time to get the golf balls ready!!
This is from my current batch that's incubating. I LOVE seeing these babies moving!!

Also, I was missing yesterday because the hunk and I put up the fence! LOL! It's not perfect, but it keeps them where I want them, so it's good. I have some adjustments I need to make, but the girls (and boy) like it out there. LOL! The bottom part of the fence is loose, so I am going to rock the bottom of it. It's only loose in 2 spots, but I'll take other precautions. Besides, I think a mini rock wall along the bottom would look nice. God knows my property has 4 acres of rock. LOL!! I threw some rocks in for them to trim their beaks. The only thing I have to do is build the gate. so Hooray! That will be done today. (I'm going to see if those free pallets are still available.)
So here is the fence.

They have almost 100 feet of running around space. Maybe more like 80. Obviously when the babies are of age, I'll make a pallet house for them and add onto the run. I'm making a separate one for the ducklings, because I want to keep their eggs separated from the chickens. :) Then I'll be waiting for my goats (Blarney!) LOL!

Okay, I'm outta here for now! Talk to you guys later!
THANKS PENTA!!
ROCK ON!!

That friggen coop is on its own little heaven!! LOVE IT!!!

Can I share a proud mom moment. My DD Izzy just got 1st place in the Junior/Senior Cadette division for Girl Scout's Community 80 Pinewood Derby!! I am so happy, it's a Father/Daughter thing, so DH is really happy too. Check out the Hershey Bar Car!
Awesome jo Izzy!
We have another class coming up in March. I and the others learned far more than we thought we would. and the biggest benefit to the class is the drawing the blood and proper culture of poultry. Coupled with the wealth of knowledge we picked up on everything from the ground up from both of the speakers.
It's great to have the hands on!
I would total love a roo or two:) but i think the crowing at the 5 am might be a little much for my nieghbors. i live in town so I am getting hens.. But the roos at the farm show i wanted them all... Now if i can find a way not to have a roo to crow. i be golden,
LOL..the crowing at 5 am is one thing... the crowing at 3 am is worse!
happy dance!!! cool beans Mommasita!
YAY! Penta!
Well two breeds i can't even find people who have them ...
Which two?
Aww! Congatulations!! That's awesome! Ferment.....aren't I suppose to get an email or link from you!?!? LMAO! Duckies are doing great! I got one to calm down from thinking I was going to kill it and got a nice photo! They got BIG holy crow! So I moved Jennise, Cabella and the 3 stooges to the biggest of the 3 brooders, so I can get ready for all the babies we will soon get! Wahoo!! They like each other, and have not fought. Actually have to admit I really think my open brooder concept makes it so easy for the introduction for these birds. I have been very lucky with bringing all my babies together. I'm a very happy mommy!
That's a gorgeous ducky, what kind is it?
 There is always something very satisfying about being tired when it involves a project you can look at tomorrow and say... 'I did that'! Good for the girls! Beats the heck out of being tired because you spent your day at work! :plbb
Yups....getting the littles involved is the best!
I really need to find something more constructive to do sunday mornings than sit here and talk to myself,,,,my household sleeps in sunday's so I try to be quiet, but it's hard cause I am usually awake by 5 am to me that's lunch time and my belly says so... How can everyone miss the sunrise, best part of the day ???
Cause we were out at a party until midnight...and what's normally an hour drive home became 2+ hours in the fog...so we rolled in, just about when you were waking up!
Does sound good…but for people? MC, you are not whipping up FF for people, right? I prefer to ferment myself with some of Chad's ahem…'Orange Juice'. I was watching out the window on Thurs Morning, DS was feeding the broody and her 7 week old chicks. This is usually MY job, these chicks are a little wild as they have been with a broody. So one escapes and I watch him chase it in circles around and around the broody coop. (When they get out on me, I put down scratch in the coop and let Momma call them back). I thought, 'oh boy, he's frustrated. It is cold and wet out there AND he's doing my chore, this isn't good.' This goes on a while before he catches her. Then I watch as he lifts her to his face, gives her a snuggle, then sets her back with Mom. What a heartwarming moment. He is a teenager after all. So good to see him love up a chook. Great Hiding Spot!
Lots of foods we eat are fermented..I'm working on lactofermenting more foods in our diets. It's great that your son is good with the chickens...ours, I think depends on their moods.
Our 4H is taking a field trip to JM Hatchery They are north of Lancaster. They have Freedom Rangers, ducklings and more. Here is their website: http://www.jmhatchery.com/
Can I tag along?
I am in Northern NJ and I keep up with this thread since many of you are closer to me than my NJ thread peeps... Just saying hi! and thought I would respond to a couple... In my opinion sheep's milk is milder in flavor than goat's milk. It has a better nutritional profile than cow or goat, and has a higher percentage of solids than cow so you can make more cheese per gallon. The cheese is outstanding. They don't kill the poultry (except for the meat classes). It is really important to quaratine any birds returning from a show though.
Welcome...we don't mind border crossers....several of us are from your side of the river....originally.
The one she was talking about was killing for bio-security. Not meat judging. She said it was how they prevented disease at their show. No clue where that show was. She said she won't ever show where this is not done. It is "stupid to put your other birds at risk like that." Maybe I will remember which girl she is, and ask.
I couldn't imagine raising a chicken I was so proud of that I wanted to show it...only to have it killed at it's first show!
Huh!? I am very particular whom I make a dish!
Umm...I thought you went for them because they were a dish!
I need some little wellie and marans girls. Anyone??
Mine aren't big enough yet to be giving me eggs...well...some of them are..but my roo is still just a cockerel.
Sorry if this has been asked before, but is anyone going to the Mid-Atlantic Small Flock Poultry Expo in Carroll County, MD?
We are. Signed up last week I think. We had a grand time at it last year, super informative!
I think I have decided to order some Wyandotte chicks from a hatchery. I might pick up a couple extra bantam hens to go with my 2 I have now, so I have some eggs until my Wyandottes get old enough. Any opinions?
I think someone already said...there's so many of us who have that breed...don't go hatchery!

Umm...you know it's really easy to tell the duck eggs from the chicken eggs, right?
I was working on one, but then with all of the medical issues my daughter had this year, it kinda got lost. If everyone would like to PM me with what they are breeding (will you sell chicks, eggs, started birds) and how far they would be willing to travel to deliver, I will get it put together ASAP.
That is AWESOME! Thanks so much!
