Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Just checking in (think I did a long time ago) and throwing more weight on the Berks County end of things! Fleetwood address, Oley School District and escapee from Boyertown many years ago! I have been keeping chickens for 20 years (yikes!) and started with guineas 2 years ago. 8 Welsummers & 4 EEs presently, along with 8 guineas in a separate coop. Thanks to Sally Sunshine for inviting me & must say I love her pups. I am the proud owner of 2 Field Bred Springers, best girls ever. Hi to everyone!
hi, stay longer this time

I like to be gradual, if possible. With roaming pets, try talking to the owner first, then paintball it with a bright color, and then kill. If it immediately attacks or destroys stuff, kill it. It sucks being on the receiving end though. Wehad huskies who would shove through as you opened the door. Pets for the three of us kids. They were tearing up garbage down the road, they disappeared. :(
I had one get in and tear up my pens and kill chickens during hurricane sandy. Lead overdose even though I didn't want to. These rotties are even bigger dogs. I have a fairly big hand (these gals say I'm 7' tall and a kilted monster lol) and the dogs paw print is as big as my fist.

x2 and to add insult to injury something killed one of my lco hens last night, guess its time to set traps and load the gun again
So sorry to hear!!!

Shot the tractor?! What kind of moronic, deranged fool would shoot the tractor? Yeah, buddy, that worked, you just made even more noise to scare the deer away, not to mention, you could've KILLED SOMEONE!!!
Nothing surprises me when it comes to slob hunters... thankfully they are a minority of the hunting community. Not enough Game Commission folks to cover all of the problems....

Poor ole phil was just to weak and died during the night,

Welcome back!!!!

Guess what's been making rounds at my house speaking of protected predators.....11pm two rottweilers made a round around my place. Not gonna be having another big dog bust in and get chickens. It's bad enough the young ones that were from the early November hatch are struggling in this cold. Most are Meyer's frypan specials, but still don't like losing birds.

One is bad enough... two is nothing to take a chance with! I would vote for the 'shoot first, ask questions later' approach if they are bothering your place!!
if it was a bear, would call but for a coon, naaa, just will do away with it, they have so much wild food to eat, but no, they want to eat my chickens, so if we can catch them, they're gone and won't be back.

and by the way....

We have chicks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We went out to do our morning chores and checks, we cleaned the other coops and collected eggs... all the while we could here all kinds of chirping coming from the broody pen...

after getting the chores finished we uncovered the wall of the broody pen and couldn't see anything different... but boy could we hear them!!! So Radioman got the camera ready and I did a quick lift to check.... and.......

Looks like 4 or maybe 5? so far... I took out a few egg shells that were laying right in the front, but didn't lift Gracie any higher or otherwise try to touch any chicks... One looked damp yet so I only held her up a few seconds... just long enough to snap this pic and grab those shells....
It was happy time in the coop after we finally saw fluffy butts!!!
