OK... time for an evening dose of cuteness!

watching chicks with a broody hen can be an addictive thing... came home from work this morning and instead of chilling out what do I do??? Rearrange the broody area and spend the morning with the pup ooohing and aaahhhing over the chicks. LOL
Mindy is totally enthralled by the newest additions, Gracie is fine with her as long as she stays back a foot or two and doesn't 'loom over' the chicks. So Mindy lays close and stares, and stares and stares!

I picked her up to move her once today, and 4 chicks fell out! They are using her like a jungle gym most of the time. Could watch them for hours! I should have made the coop big enough for a couch!

I am going to be putting the Marans eggs in lockdown on the 02/01 so please send positive hatching vibes my way!!! This is my 3rd attempt at hatching them, but the first time using the new bator. We shall see. I can't really see in them, so dark. I found a way to know if they are alive or not. I got out my stethoscope! I can hear heartbeats!!!

Yep, the stethoscope idea is great! I will remember that if we hatch out dark eggs. Should be able to do it without even having to handle the eggs.

It actually tastes pretty good. We went to Burpee's fall tour and got to taste it.

Just got done butchering my turkey.

She had so much blood in that leg, all clotted up. The bones that come down to the vent area, those thin ones, were both busted off at the tips. Her sternum was bruised to hell. He did a lot more damage to her than I knew.

LMPurdy, I heart your broody hen!

Where you asking how to ID the chicks? The Black Australorps have the most yellow/whitish on them. The Barred Rocks are the ones that are more solid. You should be able to sex them pretty early too! Love single combs for that reason!!!!
