Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

We're from Bloomsburg, PA and have our first flock which numbers 35, if I count my sister's ducklings it's 39.

I am in between Benton, Millville and Unityville - Hello, neighbor!

Anyone know how much a duck goes for in the groc store? My mom said she pays a fortune.

$10-14 for a 8-10lb duck. Sadly, we are having the same issues. Except my ganders are hurting the ducks. The goose is a doll, but those ganders are all kinds of crazy. It's not just a breeding season thing with them either, they have been idiots since their 2nd molt. I set up the appointment for the 2 ganders to be processed next Thursday. We are on the fence about the ducks. I have 4 Pekin (2 jumbo, 2 reg.) and 4 I was told were blue Swedes, but Camo is blue pied and the girls are solid blue. I also have 4 young KC hens that are about 10wks now and 2 black Swede looking ducklings in the brooder that hatched from my eggs. I will sell the KCs, but freezer camp is looking pretty good for the others. It's up to Dewey, they are his birds.

Silkie Sensations - Would a trip to Benton, PA be easier for you? I would sell you a gander and the goose.

Can anyone give me some details on taking birds to auction. Roots or Green Dragon. I am clueless, but have to get rid of roos, as soon as possible. Which place is best? If I take them all up, am I guaranteed that all will go? Do I put them in a box, cause I don't have cages? Any inside info. is much appreciated.
next wed I take mine to processing, we can cry together

Hi. :) I met another member through my CSA and here on BYC. She knows more about where her eggs came from as Holland's are hard to source from what I dead. There is a preserve involved, I think. Anyway, she took an extra roo I had and I ran into her at the Farm to Table Conference in Pittsburgh. I also realized one of my lagers was going broody, so I called her up and had them in a few days. We'll see how many hatch out. My "momma" is taking it pretty seriously. :)

I HAVE A MAJOR ORDEAL TODAY! and of course the Day DH takes off work and is home to witness it!!

Our Ancona Drake, Clem is trying to kill the brahma roosters in the run!
The one rooster is ripped top of wattle down about 4 inches long! we put veterycin on it and gave him some antibiotics but DH don't care, the ducks have to go.
I locked him alone in the duck house for now, DH heard the commotion and came running and said I need to get rid of the ducks or he will get rid of them.
OMG the drake was physco and I couldn't even stop him! He flipped physco I swear! Is this normal or what!! I am so upset I have 17 eggs in the bator too!

I don't need this crap after I called the processing guy and dealing with setting all that chicken sheat up!
hy cant everyone even ducks and chickens get along!

I believe you were giving your chickens water. I didn't realize you were bringing some to the show. You probably said so and I glazed over it. I was there around 10 am. i didn't stay very long. i'm glad I went. If I go again I'll go later to see the other stuff.

Sorry to hear about your ducks! *hugs* Waterfowl males are ***es this time of the year! I wanted to get rid of my drakes last week (even Ben Afflac was being an ***). And gander & I have a throw down every other day.
Sorry, can't help you on the price, but around here, it might be more cost effective to butcher. Unless you are willing to ship live adults.

I would like to know as well. I haven't found any one close by who processes birds, so i am thinking this might be the route i need to go for my extra boys. Let me know when you are going and if i can (if work allows it) i can ride over or meet you over there. Maybe that way we can make sure we don't come home with anything. :) That's part of the reason i try to avoid those places, or go with someone who will keep me from buying. Last time i came home with a dozen mixed chicks, 6 baby ducks, and a baby goat.....I would be kicked out to live in the barn if i do that again. LOL
