Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Back from developmental 4H meeting!!! We discussed the Oley Valley sell/swap at the feed store, anybody going? It's for all farm animals + dogs/cats, so it should be a blast!

Snapped a pic of the German NHR today! crappy cellphone pic does them NO justice, these birds are BEAUTIFUL!

Does anyone want a special needs chicken??? I have a young, handicapped Buckeye cockerel. He's the shrimpy, runty one of the hatch and he's feathering out super slow. He's 6 weeks old and not even close to being fully feathered. For some reason, he's developed a sort of "reverse angel wing", and his primaries shoot straight up from under his folded wing. No idea how that happened. I don't know how long he'll live, but I don't have money/time/space to be keeping deformed fowl around here. If he keeps living, he should stay on the small side. I would keep an eye on his wing as he grows. He's free to whoever wants to stop by and grab him...

Have my fellow Western Pennsylvanian chicken mommas heard that the cicada are supposed to hatch this year?! I'm so excited.

I raise meal worms for the girls to have in the winter since everything is frozen here in the winter so knowing that the cicada are coming is great! I've read posts from ppl out west who gather grasshoppers when they swarm and freeze them.

Better believe I'm gonna have some containers of cicada in the freezer for this winter. The girls are gonna be soooo happy!

Hello!! I hadn't thought about freezing them, but great idea! Will have to do up a few bags of them for winter treats.
This is funny. I AM spoiling them,....but not on purpose. When they get out, I catch em up, and put them right back in, as I am LESS than physically fit, I 'catch' them, by tempting them with treats. Perhaps they're training ME!
Yep, they are training you!

Anyone who has their CPT let me know and I'll add it to your info on the map. That way we can all find CPT's easily.
Blarney, MsLadyhawk, Galgo98 and myself. Not sure if anyone else completed theirs
Blarney:

They don't call it a 'goat rodeo' for nothing. Do invisible fences work on goats?
That's a great idea!!
Go Chad,,, hope you have a good hatch ! And, I only use you as a landmark because SO many know where you are, very few know where I am....

Too bad the Roo isn't working out, my guys are so easy going with people. What color is he, can you post a pic of him if you have one ?
I see I see. You might as well use the gas station passed Chad's house as a meeting place. I have chicks rocking inside the bator with that lil one running around and knocking on eggs lol
Ray, your the guy that cant leave his house between November and January

Tis the season to by jolly
Look who's talking! The woman that can't leave the house from Jan-Dec because there's always chicks in the brooder and eggs in a bator. Even the feed gets delivered

I had to poke that in there LMAO yep still

Interesting idea!
Of course they're going to swarm this year. 2 Octobers ago we had the Halloween Snow Storm. Last October we had Hurricane Sandy. This October we're getting married, it'll be a swarm of locusts.

To those of your "near" me, there is an estate auction on the 27th which includes a farm, with a rather large coop, several feeders, waterers, a cage for transport etc. Hope someone can get some good stuff at a good deal...we of course are camping that weekend.
Enabler!

Where are you located? I didn't see you on the map.

Hey, y'all! What's up? Sorry for being MIA. Just really hectic around here. Just wanted to say hi. Hope everyone's doing well! Been a rough winter here. VERY happy it's finally spring! Working on a drawing of the kiddos with chickens...LOL...and figured I'd share, since no one else in my life gets it! Cute wee bumpkins :) Another work-in-progress that I can't seem to finish! *Sigh* What's everyone up to & hatching? I've got a broody wheaten Am, otherwise nothing to report. Someone gonna surrender some to me? Hmmm?

So this is what I hate it at now..... When I came home I went to lift the little tab of membraine and that QUICK it ripped..(all i wanted to do is see under it) and blood started gushing everywhere!! I had a paper towel around it..... and so I then (since no one really was on and i needed to work fast for the blood was filling into its mouth!!) opened where the air sack was... and started chipping down the middle so it can breathe without any issues... so now its in the bator with a moist paper towel.

T
his is it in the bator. I have bubble wrap under it, the paper towel kept wanting to soak up the yolk. So I have some paper towel under the bubble wrap. There is a moist paper towel over it too. It looks horrible. But it keep trying to push its way out so I hope thats a good thing... and it is very talkitive. Breathing well. I am allowing it more time to soak the yolk up. I can't beleive how fast it happened!

On a better note.. this little one hatched on its own while I was at work. Took him out of the bator so it dosent run the messed up one over.

Chad...what are you hatching? I owe you pics, dude. My cell is in for repair, but I'll text you. Your 3 chicks are 2 pullets, one roo, and the roo is ENORMOUS! One blue hen, so awesome...named her Margarita, and the black one had a name that you told me & I forgot...LOL.

...and a chicken cartoon. I have a few more that I'll post eventually...LOL. Sorry, probably should be on the art forum, but they're all kids on there & I feel creepy hanging out on that page...LOL.

I know...I know...I'm a dork.
