Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I think my one EE is a Roo... :hit He is SO sweet to. so out of 13 chickens i have 3 roos. A bit much I would say. I am Keeping the BCM boy. He is GORGEOUS!! and Nicelly featherd feet too, he could be a possible SQ. And i HAVE to keep our SS that turned out to be a roo. He is a sweety and GORGEOUS as well and is my DD favorite. So I guess i will let the EE roo get a little bigger to make sure he IS a he and then will have to find him a good home. Explained this to DD and she is NOT happy. Maybe getting some new chicks will help her (me) feel better. LOL

Any one have an empty bator i could borrow? lol

I have an LG still air you can have cheap when I figure out sex on these SFH and you get one, lol

How late is too late for feather sexing? I meant to do mine but I got so busy with school and taking care of our other animals I never got around to it. I would still like to try, though.
According to all these things I saw, it says you have to do it 1 to 3 days after hatching.
Feather sexing is actually genetic

It's usually only found a a couple strains of commercial leghorns and cornish x, so having it occur in other breeds is close to zero. The gene that makes feather sexing possible is just not there. If feather sexing exsisted for all breeds of chickens, imagine how easy ordering from a hatchery would be!
Well, then I guess it doesn't matter when I do it

Was hoping I could tell who is a roo out of the new babies. Not that it matters all that much, because not sure I can stand to part with them.......

You take a sewing needle or wedding ring (supposedly engagement rings work as well, I've only ever tried the needle) thread it onto cotton thread, and either lay it on the hand for a 10 seconds or tap it on the hand 10 times while holding the thread. When you pick it up it will either swing back and forth (boy) or in a circle (girl), it will slow down and usually stop between each pregnancy. If it changes directions without stopping it's multiples. If you're pregnant and do it over your lower belly it's supposed to show the sex. I found out (when we did my Gram and Aunt) it does count pregnancies that are not full term (i.e. miscarriages). It also changes for women if you break up and start seeing someone else (mine has changed with each BF, and this is the first time it has matched the "readings" from when I've been single), I don't know if it changes for men.
Woa what? I just confused the crap out of myself!!

That's the same! It's just a different brand, but it's the same! IMO, FF is worthwhile even if you only have one bird... you'd just have to scale it WAAAAYYYY down. I do mini batches of like 1 cup of feed and a sprinkle of yeast sometimes if I only have a few chicks during the summer (since they have to have feed all day instead of just once at night).
Ok, after reading all these posts, I have been thinking to myself.. no way to I want to bother with Fermented feed!! I know I would forget about it somehow, I have a mind liek a sieve and the attention span to match! But 1 cup!! I can do that!!

You guys make me laugh!! To!!

Quote: Sorry I ramble and over explain stuff. I was told it's a Penn Dutch pregnancy and sex predictor. I guess it's also used to determine the sex of animals that are hard to sex, in this case chicks. Supposedly it picks up on the bodies bio-magnetic field, or aura. I want to try it on fertile eggs (when I get to that point), should work the same way as the belly on a preg woman.
Oh and congrats on the pheasants and your new run

I had as computer fan in it, so yes. I used the fan in a coolerbator I made. There is a thread on LG's on here somewhere.

Those are the crested ones. Kind of cool.

*I prefer poultry pimp, I'm not am enabler : ) *
