The chain attaches to a rope that threads through screw eyes to outside the run. The door is heavy enough that dropping it slams it to latch. Pulling the rope pulls up on the latch so it opens.

Unbelievable! This is awesome! Way out of my league. I'm still repeating righty tighty, lefty loosey (in my head of course).

What time? The Central PA Avian Club is having their spring auction the same day. I went for the first time last year and actually bought birds (the ducks/ducklings I now hate and want to eat). I regret not buying the English buff Orp roo that was there! Not that I needed him... He was just gorgeous!

Can I get some more information on this auction. Thank you

You're doing better than me...I often have to repeat it out loud...like it's a question...

Someone posted the ad for it several pages back (prolly like 20 or so...this thread flies!)

That's awesome. Does the latch make it heavy enough to slam or would I need to add something else.

I lean over the fence to latch it at night, and use a stick to pop it up in the morning...but if your run is completely closed that may not work as well.

The run won't be completely enclosed but the fence will be approximately 5' feet tall with a metal roof. There will be one gate to let them free range when they get a little older. But want to have my kids let them out of the coop in the mornings into the run.

Yeah...kids can't lean over a 5 ft fence....so perhaps that hanging thingy will work better for you!

Great idea and simple quick solution! Like your way of thinking!
It's very hard to keep up with you guys! Congrats LMP on your new birds and egg! already!!! Wing- My geese will nibble on everything in the garden, except the tomato plants. We ended up fencing it off last year. They do a great job keeping the dandelions and other weeds out of the yard. And as far as GOOSE math.... how could anybody resist a face like this????
They are solo cute when they are little!!
