I would say so! awwww

I have 7 week old pekins & rouens that are just now starting to really feather in well. The 4-5 week old pekins & runners are still mostly fluff except around the wings & a little on the chest.

I have a question for anyone... The partridge is 5mnths..soon 6..there are feathers, hers, not like "omg", they are all different too, some of the long ones from the tail?..under-fluff, she likes to preen, well, so does the other one, she does have a bunch of new ones(feathers) are coming in...I noticed, on her head...the shaft? is still on them *** the Question**: Is she getting her "big" girl feathers in or? I am always looking at them(holding), whether they like it or not ...anyway, no pests..no pecking...clean, dry & eating well..very well, drinking just fine ...

Yep, she's molting.

Quote: Even though mine never manage to last more than 1-2 weeks max before ending up in someone's tummy, my aunt swears eggs have a shelf life of 6 months when stored properly. Just imagine how old the eggs in the store must already be if they are within 2-3 weeks of their expiration date by the time we buy them.

She seems to owe out an awful lot of eggs to an awful lot of people from what I have seen on several people's swap pages.

Not sure why anyone would dig themselves so far into a hole like that. I don't like to get more than 1-2 orders of anything owed out at a time in case my birds decide to not cooperate. That way I can at least offer people options for alternates if the wait gets too long for what they originally wanted.

I have a 2nd batch of Anconas on the way from sarasweatman. The 1st batch did fabulous with 12/17 hatching in a variety of colors. I love her Anconas.

Reyvaughn,

If you want to try before you burn the brooder, I can send you some concentrated kennel disinfectant to try. It kills pretty much everything.

I have Oxine AH w/ citric acid. I disinfected it with bleach the last time. Would the kennel disinfectant work better than either of those?

Oh geez I am so sorry your having so much loss:( was just wondering what Peter Brown thought what disease is causing the deaths when you talked to him last week?
I wrote to him and he wanted a $25 consultation fee. I just spent over $100 in meds for the birds and couldn't do it. I am pretty sure it's either Mold/Fungi, Brooder Pneumonia or Cryptosporidiosis. Don't forget, this all started with messy ducks causing the bedding to get soaked.

Quote: There are no satisfactory control measures except isolation and good sanitation. None of the known anticoccidial drugs are effective against Cryptosporidium spp. Unlike Cryptosporidium spp of other mammals, the avian species are not infectious to people.

I managed to save 5 of the 8 struggling chicks. Only half of them reacted badly to the essential oils, which baffles me. What I think happened was I should have cut back on the eucalyptus and added olive oil or something to cut the effect of the essential oils. I think the eucalyptus chilled them and they didn't get under the heat. The ones that were dead or struggling were not under the lamp and very cold. I put them under the lamp and only the really bad off ones died.

I still have sneezers, no other symptoms of anything else. No deaths caused by this illness, so far. Of course, I caught it right away this time and did the same things I did the last time (Oxine in the humidifier and oxytetracycline in the water) and used the essential oils instead of chest rub. I bought organic, unfiltered ACV this round, too. I will add that to another waterer for them.

Another $70 in meds this week with no steps closer to an explanation or a sure cure. I have lost over $400 in chicks. I was expecting to make the cost of the incubator back in this first swap. I would have if it wouldn't have been for this illness. Oh, and of the over 15 bantam chocolate Orps I have hatched in the last couple months, I have 2 left. That's $20 per chick right there. Ugh, in 3yrs of hatching, I have never had these kinds of issues.

Someone told me CPL is ill and I assume they are correct as I haven't seen her posting or responses to PM's. That's all I know, besides she moved back to the farmhouse and then got really sick. So I wont pest her anymore sounds like she needs catch up time as much as I need a break!
