Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I hatch my own now that I have breeding groups of birds that are of the quality I want to keep.

I struggle to keep my Cochins and brahmas laying as they are always wanting to go broody. Sometimes it drives me nuts breaking them bc I don't want any more chicks:)

Quality for laying or selling or showing? I like having my variety (honestly so I can tell them apart...my EE I can tell apart bc the two that are similarly colored are different sizes...my BO & BA look the same to me

). I would *love* to have a crew that lays an egg a day consistently.

Quote: My 2 bantam EE don't lay overly well but 1 is about 5-6 years old & the other is 3-4 years old. They make good broodies though, so they get to stay. My LF EE lays almost daily & has since she started laying in March. She took a break for about 2 weeks a while back to molt & other than that I have gotten at least 5-6 eggs per week out of her.

Where would I find information on NPIP?
I'm looking online and there's a link to learn how to become involved...it's a dead link.

Aww. They removed it. I was in the mood for a good laugh :)

Day 20 and 3 eggs are rocking but no pips yet. I really hope we get so e chicks. No more mail ordered eggs from eBay for me. It's too frustrating. I got really excited that my silkie was sitting on a few eggs I left in the bucket aka her nest. I went out tonight and she is back with her pals. Grrr. Why won't my silkies go broody! Ugh!

The one white rock we have was born with a bad leg. It just drags to the side and is useless. She is smaller then her sisters but gets around fine and is the sweetest bird. All the white rocks perch with the leghorns. Since she can't perch she was sleeping alone. We moved the silkies back in the coop one night when we had a really bad rain and just decided to keep them there until the new coop is built. Last night and tonight I found the white rock sleeping with the silkies all piled together. It was so sweet that they let her lay with them.
