If you need to be NPIP clean to sell hatching eggs out of state, we can make it work for you. It is a lot of work to be on the program, but you get the status of being NPIP clean. That means a lot.
If you can santitize your hatching areas, keep the birds separate from other birds (if free range, netting is recommended, but not required), test on time, and follow the rules, you can be on the program. We do have some very small hatcheries on the program already."
So I guess I could do it and free-range...
Who are you quoting here? I wonder if they cover my area? Greg Martin (poultry doc in Lancaster County) told me no free-range with NPIP. But I guess if someone else was doing the NPIP inspection, someone who allows free range....hmmmmm
Welcome back Reyvaugh, Maggie is one pretty horse!
Silkiesensations!! Pepper is adorable, looks like a good buy to me.
Wing, your pictures are amazing. Love your place!
We have tonight off, so we may be going to the Green Dragon.
Pepper is spoiled already...lol
Not sure about PA, but we are allowed to free range with NPIP in Ohio.
i have a question, how are they going to enforce you selling eggs out of state without being npip? i've been ordering eggs from out of state and none say they are npip, just curious
another thing for the government to stick their nose into.
You only get in trouble if you get caught. I have been NPIP for over a year, yet have only ever sent paperwork with 1 set of eggs & only then because they requested it. I have shipped birds & only written my NPIP number on the inside flap of the box & nowhere else, no paperwork attached or anything & they all got there fine. It's usually not monitored at all, but if it does happen to get checked then you could be in trouble.
500 posts behind but I need opinions. If I got chicks the week of July 22nd, would they be old enough by the winter to survive outside without a heat lamp (assuming I turn the heat lamp on maybe twice a month on the worst days)? Also, assuming around 8-10 chicks and a coop that is 4x5 ft big.
They will be 10-12 weeks old before it even starts to actually get cold. They will be fine. I toss mine outside with no heat as early as 3-4 weeks once temps are staying above 40F at night.
