I think it was Sally sunshine that had a really cool pallet coop on here. I wanted my husband to make one but he said he has enough metal studs to use instead. I do t care what he uses I just want a bigger coop!

Free chicks are always tempting. I don't have the space for them right now either so no chicks for me either. Just let me know if you want the Australorp eggs, no big deal. I would love to give some to someone just to check the fertilization. Like I said, I would hatch some for myself but I just don't want any chicks right now. I really hope to put together a bigger, better coop this fall but money is so tight right now that I can't do it. I would try to use recycled materials, but the skill level is a little beyond what I am armed with. I will probably have to wait until spring.

When the money is there the time isn't and when you have the time it seems money is tight. My husband was laid off but we didn't want to spend the money, now he is working crazy hours so he doesn't have the time. The chickens are only sleeping in the coop and free ranging during the day (much to my husbands disapproval) so we are okay on space. Come winter time they are going to be too crowded to stay inside all the time.

point of lay tetra tints 6.00 each.

I have never heard of this breed. I had to google them. Very interesting.

If you have an iPhone or iPad there's an ap called isentry that you might be able to use to ID your trespasser. You just face your phones camera towards a scene and it records pictures if any of the pixels move, will save them to the phone or maybe even email it to you. The settings were kind of a pain to adjust but it does work, and way less expensive than buying an outdoor camera. I've never tried it at night, and if your chickens cross the screen you'll get lots of false alarms. I also guess there's a similar ap for android phones?

If it ever stops raining this might be an option *sigh*

I agree. I have 2 tetra tints, though I just call them leghorns because its easier for family conversations. I swear they don't miss a day! If Bruce lived even remotely close to Westmoreland County, I would be all over that!

My leghorns are awesome layers!

I actually have a stack of 20 or so pallets up on my hill. I guess I need to look into a bit more. Pallets are freaking hard to tear apart though! Lol...I'm just being lazy now!

This is my next project

And I want my husband to make this for the patio

Morning all!! Hopefully this rain will stop for a while, the girls got caught out yesterday and stupid me ran out to try and get them in the coop - needless to say I was soaked from head to foot!! lol

Well I go to the gas station this morning to grab a drink and something told me to go look at the local newspaper - which i never do - glad I did now!! It happened just down the road from where we live - I called hubby this morning and told him about it - he said we are going to get a shotgun. It worries me stuff like that happening so close with hubby away all the time for work and just me and the kiddo here

HI Lorus, we're practically neighbors...I'm from the Burgh..bought my car at Diehl's so I come up to your area for service on it. Anyway, welcome, I'm a new chicken mommy & this is such an informative site, it'll be a big help to you. I'll be going to your Fair next month to see the chickens. How many & what type of chickens will you be getting?

Thanks everyone for all the kind words. I had to cull one and the other one was dead this morning. Unfortunaly only my one little basque is the lone survivor. She/he is a strong little thing but I tried to put her with the silkie and the older chicks and all though they didn't go after her they were not carefull enough to not step on her. So she is in the house in a brooder till I go and get her a friend. Or two or three..... LOL I carried her around all morning doing my farm chores in my shirt pocket. She isn't spoiled at all.....

I really like this breed the more I read in to them. I have been toying with the idea of picking one breed I like to consider breeding and these basques might be it. But that won't be for a year or so down the road.
I will post some picks tonight.

Mamahen,

I have 2 faverolles that are a week old. You're welcome to have 1 or both of them if you like.
