Hello everyone,
Hope you all are doing well!!
Sorry to hear so many of you are having neighbor issues and all that comes/goes with that!
hugs.gif
....I am , at the moment trying to extended my hand to ours...not looking to be BFF's with them, just civil enough to live beside one another...yes, I do know extremely well what someone who does not want to be civil is like to have as a neighbor.....that being said, I am trying with the others.
Have some updated pics of the babies(Marans)....we are keeping them until we know who is what, but they will need new homes once we do. I am interested in keeping one, but we will see. Today is the first day out in the grass, they had a great time and everyone found bugs!! As soon as they were in the sun-warmed grass, they became puddles, just fell asleep right there!! funniest thing ever!!!...They are 2 weeks and 3 days old
.Also some updated pic of the girls..Ginger & Babs,...Babs(Partridge) had caught up to and is now passing Ginger(BLR-Black laced) on 'size' , her face is really starting to get red too! Now she just needs to get started on those eggs!!! They were enjoying some cereal. Babs is almost 9 months and Ginger is 11 months.
I had such a fun time hatching...I can not wait to have the opportunity to do it again!! Having the little ones around has been very entertaining and educating. That is the only thing with hatching though, isn't it? Wondering what you are going to do with them once they are here! hahaha, I just want to hatch, not keep them!! hahaha..my chicken math HAS to stay small....for now anyway.
Have a good one all!

Aww how cute!

Hopefully the neighbours got the hint, I went out to close the coop for the girls and they were all in their yard talking when their 14yr old kid comes screaming down the side of OUR house on the 4 wheeler, across our backyard and I stood there shaking my head. All I could hear when he reached them was his mum going "cody don't do that anymore!"

I have finally rescheduled my chicken pick up for.................drum roll please..............THIS FRIDAY AFTERNOON!

I am picking up 2 laying hens
one is EE
one is NHR
and two 6 week old hens
one is golden laced Wyandotte
one is barred rock

I am psyched.

the guy said I could feed the 6 week and the laying hens laying pellets.......
I was worried that the 6 weekers might need some other type of food------do you all agree with this?

I will have pictures of my first chickens in my own yard EVER------after I get them AND
the completed coop and run too.

I am still healing a nasty shin wound I sustained while building the coop------------I tripped over a cinder block.........ouch ouch ouch
it got infected and I am on my 2nd round of antibiotics!

I was hoping this would be totally healed prior to the chickens arrival ------so that any chicken related germs would not complicate matters.-----well it was supposed to be healed by yesterday and now I have the new stronger and longer antibiotics....................so keep your fingers crossed that I don't have any further problems with this!

looking forward to Friday !
Hoping I have a safe coop and run for these new arrivals..................cant imagine finding out a predator got in!

Congratulations on the birds coming Friday!

On another note, no, I do not agree with the person you are getting them from. The 6 week olds should not be getting layer feed. You would be better off feeding them all grower feed and putting a cup or something of oyster shell. Your chicks won't mess with it more than once and it will provide the layers with the calcium they need.

Also, are the 6 week old chicks ALREADY housed with these larger laying hens? If not, that will be an issue as well. 6 week olds are too small to be thrown in with adult hens unless they hatched them out or were previously adjusted to each other in some way. It could lead to death of the young ones if they can't defend themselves. I'm not trying to be a party pooper but I don't want to see a post from you written through tears on Saturday. Since I have been following your progress on the coop, I know that it probably is not large enough for that age difference to be together. This is all assuming that the 6 week olds are not abnormally large.

I hope all this helps. Good luck!
