One of my 5.5 week EE chicks went missing today while I was volunteering at the hospital 7am-4pm. No idea where it could have went. I checked every possible spot. And this is literally the worst chick to get lost from the bunch- it makes no sound whatsoever.

yep...one of my babies went AWOL this evening ......though a bit older....I'll be out late with the dogs and up early too....just to make sure critters don't come near.....its been my experience that chooks can hunker down and you will not see them unless they get up and move....yours' maybe just hiding out.....hope for the best!

She showed up this morning and was at the gate to the pen....I'm just glad she never made it over the fence....I really would like to know where she roosted....I spent about an hour last night and hour this morning with flashlight looking for her....PIA!...

Glad she made it back!!

I am glad none off my girls got out yesterday, trying to find anything last night would have been impossible, it was like being on the set of " the fog" here last night, I couldn't even see the road - which is right out the front of the house, was super creepy for sure!!!

That's awesome! I am happy for you.

While out looking for mine, I stumbled upon a little baby sparrow that looked like it got caught up in the storm last night. It is currently under a lamp to get dried up and is laying down, only making tiny gasps. I feel so bad for it, but I doubt it will make it, it looks like it is in really bad shape

Oh crap...I am sitting here at work and all I can do is be relatively miserable. Who wants to go into business with me? I have YEARS of experience running businesses and marketing as well! Lets open one of those farms where the public comes and picks their own stuff. Or maybe lets put on some sort of fair featuring organic foods and homesteading stuff. We can get lots of vendors. I hate working for someone else. My boss is actually a really nice guy and it's a great environment but I just wish I was home, supporting my family from my land or at least getting paid to teach other people how to do it (even if I don't know everything yet). Is this too much to ask? Who's with me??? OK, sorry for the rant. Now back to your regularly scheduled programs.
Pick me! pick me!!! Oh, and could ya move a little closer? Ah...and become an Eagles fan -non-negotiable.
Nothing better than coming home from a hard day sitting in the grass and have three cute chicks crawl up on my lap. Just mad me peaceful and serene! :)
Nothing better! And you're 'kind of' working too...assessing your animals. You made me chuckle 'cause you sound like me a few months back (mine aren't chicks any longer). Now I find that feeling just by hanging out with my ladies. I feel like I go into another world out there. :~) Thanks for sharing!
We are taking the plunge and heading to New York for the show in Bath. It's a combo show, 2 poultry clubs, 2 shows, one weekend. Anyone else in? The entries need to be post marked by tomorrow. I know this is last minute, but I had a hard time committing as we really don't have anything in 'show shape'. We're going anyway, only showing 4 birds are looking forward to seeing new breeders and having the kids do showmanship. Here's a little article on it: http://www.steubencountyfair.org/documents/tWIN tIER pOULTRY cLUB 2013.PDF and a web site... http://wnypoultryclub.webs.com
Thanks for the info!! Good luck! (is that what you say in poultry showing?)....or is it lay an egg? : )
Galgo!! If ou can sneak away at all, you should come, I've heard over 400 entries for Water Fowl alone!
My SIL just called me and a guy she knows has 15 silkies to get rid of. He said he just doesn't have room for them. They are 2 months old. I didn't ask any more questions because my brain started turning. Thinking......... where am I gonna put them for quarantine , what's DH gonna say? Is this going to happen anytime someone says "know anyone who wants some chickens"? lol

Eventually, you'll get sick of spending so much money on feed, and it will be easier to say no. It can take years to get to that point, so... go get those silkies, lol.
Oh yeh! Get the Silkies, they are tiny and hardly eat anything! ;)

I wanted to share the shoes for the wedding: I decoupaged Star Wars fabric onto a pair I found at JcPennys for $5, I just need to figure out what to do with the platform...any ideas?
these are Awesome!! The phrase, The cat's pajamas' comes to mind. I have no ideas for the platform as my full name is Blarney 'no slave to fashion' 'would.rather do ANYTHING other than wear a pair of heels' DeFilippo. Best of luck to you.

Trying to read and catch up.. Mostly I post on the BYC FB locations... Been busy recently, Well sick, and then on Vacation, and still sick.. Refusing to go to the doctor since I have Crap for medical insurance these day....

Need to clean my coop.. ugh.. Maybe I can get to it this weekend.. Change back to straw from the sand, that did a great Job of keeping the smell down during the hot days, but boy have they made a mess of the sand.. Faster than I can replace it anyway..

Anyone have any Hatching eggs and lives close to me? I only need like 4 or 5 to give to my one broody girl, I gave her 3, she broke 2 and the one did not hatch :( And she will not get off the nest I am told until she hatches.

Be patient new chicken peeps! I waited forever for that first egg, then you get little eggs, then when they get to regular size, they will A) Molt and you stop getting eggs till that is over, then B) they go broody and stop laying till they hatch a freaking egg then you have to wait about another month till she starts to lay again. Crazy Chickens... and C) They are now slow with egg production because they are getting older!! HAHAH But it is sure fun to watch them run in the morning for their scratch/veggies & fruits!! my lil "Fat Girls" heheheh

Oh quick question, something I noticed a 3 of my chickens doing, it rained Yesterday so not sure if that has anything to do with it but, it was bed time, and they are on their perchs like normal, I pet them all good night every evening when I lock them up. And the 3 where shaking there heads funny, I took one out and gave her a nice inspection I didn't see anything (no mites.fleas. etc.) Would they just have been doing that to get the rain water off? They were not soaking wet, but felt Damp?

Hope everyone is doing well! If not get well soon! Congrats to anyone getting Married, think I read someone is! Welcome New peeps!
