Once they are pickled they are fine for quite a while, my DH has been working on the last batch for about 3 wks now (that's 3 wks + the 10 days he waited for them to be 'done') and he hasn't had a bit of trouble.

the vinegar kinda cures them, i have a batch much older, still quite tasty and we're not dead yet.

PHEW! It's been too long eh? No time to go through the hundreds of posts. Just wanted to pop on and say how excited I am for the sharpsburg swap! I think I'm gonna ride down with Joan; my loverman has no desire. Poo on him cuz now I have no adult supervision and if I come home with part of a new flock it's aaaaalll okay

I have a broody hen, that I don't really wanna move around and try to keep on eggs, can I just give her chicks? Or will she refuse em? I think I could fool her but....

We're leaving here bright and early Friday...with all 5 kids in tow....and the step-daughter...her new BF is supposed to join us Saturday.

So...I've mentioned that my wedding has morphed into Oltoberfest right? Now DH wants to add the gun show to the morning of the wedding....any ya'll wonder why I'm completely insane.

My girl just sat on a nest for 2 months and didn't hatch anything, I picked up 4 chicks from ladyhawk, and hatched 2 from a batch from Blarney! Stuffed the chicks under her and she is, in love!! Or releaved she has chicks and not eggs anymore!! Lol not sure if that answer's your question,maybe let her sit for the 21 days and then swap out
