Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hello everyone! I've been such a bad poster lately. My Ipad won't let me quote but I did catch up on my reading :)

The hubby said he thinks getting a goat will be a good idea (never, ever thought he would give in so easily). He wants to build a portable housing system so we can clear some land. Any thoughts on this? I really want a Pygmy goat. Is it true goats are social animals and you should at least have 2? What else do they eat?

We have been setting the trap every night but most nights the food is gone, the trap is moved but it's empty. We finally got a trail cam so fingers crossed we see what is getting in and out!

Still no eggs from our white rocks. I swear if we don't get some soon I'm going to eat them!

Since money is going to be tight soon I'm going to cancel our cable. I already clip coupons but I would love to cut down even more on our grocery bill. Any suggestions? I cook every night, make as much from scratch as possible, make my own cleaners, etc. I just can't seem to get it under $150-200 a week :/

Sorry so many questions! Have a great night.

Wow, nobody has posted today...so I will....first, no baby chicks yet....and I made my first attempt and pickling peppers....4 pints and most of whats left of my hot peppers....Have a good day all...

I believe I need to sell my Nigerian Dwarf, Nettie. She isn't a weed eater and hasn't gone into heat. I don't have a buck to 'tease' her into it either. So, no kid and no milk. She's not earning her keep. Being cute does not count.

This weekend was somewhat productive. We went to the Central PA Poultry Club's auction. I took my last 2 larger bantam chocolate Orp boys, a true bantam pair of chocolate Orps and 2 quints of Mille Fleur bantam Cochins. I did not stay to see how things went. Knowing my luck, I would have bought all the chocolates back. When we got home from the auction and stopping at my mom's, Dewey and I started framing out my pens in the shed. I will have 2 - 3.5x5' pens and a 4.5-ishx5' pen. I have enough room on the other side to put in a large permanent brooder of 4x6' and a 4x6-ish' pen or all one large pen... Something. Lets get the first side done and then I'll worry about the other. I could almost have all my birds in the shed - easy chore time! Yeah, as if that's going to happen.

Why do people keep goats? For the milk? I mean they are cute but is there a purpose?

Also, one of my RIRs sneezed so hard today that she fell down. This happened after a feeding frenzy. Is this normal? My birds seem to make weird noises if they eat too quickly.

Do any of you within an hour or so drive of Harrisburg have any spare 2013 hatched pullets to sell? Any brown or blue/green egg laying breed will do.

A good friend is looking for some, up to 2 dozen depending on price.

I got Nettie to eat weeds and for the milk. I wanted to try my hand at making cheese and butter. Maybe a little soap, too. I've had her a year and she's never gone into heat and without breeding her I can't get milk.

Yeah, chickens gobble to fast and it gets caught or goes down the wrong way. They'd have you believe they were dying of starvation when they do that. Pfft. Mine get fed daily and they act like they haven't eaten in weeks. No one said they were smart (bird brains).
