Well, I'm thinking, if you get your NPIP, then expose some of your flock to other birds at a show, wouldn't that effect your status as NPIP?
That is a very good question, I dont show so I never even thought of it.
Call me stuck up, or whatever but I would never put my birds at a show. I have way too much money into my little flock and I know too much about diseases.
Do I wish I would show, YES will I? nope. IF anything I would love to talk to people who are really into showing and learning everything I can about breed standards and the show ring.
Even when I come back from visiting a show I shower and wash my clothes! When the health inspector was here we talked for some time on some of the "diseases" and issues he has run into already and how quickly things can spread. NOT something I want to devastate my flock and end my chicken keeping.
MIND you I think its great to get kids involved in showing, getting kids involved in anything is always a plus!
If there is one good thing about NPIP and showing is your already tested unless they as for the LT screen.
We are discussing LT on the Diary thread, pretty scary disease and extremely too common here. They had just quarantined a flock somewhere, inspector said the trucks that haul the fowl can simply drive past on the road and send it to your flock, and he said it happened, he said they traced a line of it via roadways one year. How freaky is that! he said if he would do any vaccinations he would do LT, HOWEVER the common vaccine is a LIVE vaccine, not one I wish to give to my flock, but we did find another vaccine and like I said discussion is on the diary thread about it as well as links to videos and explainations. scary thing is Nan said you may be required to vaccinate for LT to show, I expressed concerns with the live virus and she said that is a days debate.

here is where we started talking about it, anyone can join the diary thread anytime as you can see we have discussed alot of great chicken info! Some really smart people on the thread, sometimes way over my head but I sure need the help most times!
