Thanks for the advice on my rooster problem. I forget who asked but no we don't need a replacement! lol. We have a small black and white rooster who is a sweet little guy. He used to crow real low but now that the big guy is gone his crow has been louder.

Is everyone ready for the holiday? I did some baking today. I still have to go to Walmart tonight to grab last minute items. I also have to wrap all the kids gifts, bake my cheesecake, prep the rest of the food and CLEAN! My house looks like a tornado went through it. We do the elf on the shelf with the kids. Their elf mike left them a note to clean up their rooms. Now I just need him to leave a note for my hubby. lol

I am not near ready!!! I need to clean!!! its not happening because I just dont feel like it lol!

I love elfs!!! What all have you done with the elf? we have a grinch wall advent calendar!

MIND you I think its great to get kids involved in showing, getting kids involved in anything is always a plus!

If there is one good thing about NPIP and showing is your already tested unless they as for the LT screen.

We are discussing LT on the Diary thread, pretty scary disease and extremely too common here. They had just quarantined a flock somewhere, inspector said the trucks that haul the fowl can simply drive past on the road and send it to your flock, and he said it happened, he said they traced a line of it via roadways one year. How freaky is that! he said if he would do any vaccinations he would do LT, HOWEVER the common vaccine is a LIVE vaccine, not one I wish to give to my flock, but we did find another vaccine and like I said discussion is on the diary thread about it as well as links to videos and explainations. scary thing is Nan said you may be required to vaccinate for LT to show, I expressed concerns with the live virus and she said that is a days debate.

awwww did they give antibiotics? what is the treatment? One of the ladies who purchased a pup from me had issues with lymes as well.  


Was the leg lameness the main inclination? I assume they draw blood for lymes tests .


I will pray he feels better fast, I have RA and I know the pain the poor guy. :*(

They gave him Amoxicillin, Doxycycline, and pain killers (I forget the name).


Well, his symptoms were: limping (yesterday), not standing (this morning he wouldn't stand at ALL. When he'd try he'd cry in pain), fever, and lethargy.


We looked up his symptoms amd he had every one of lyme disease. We took him to the emergency vet and they did blood tests for heartworm, lyme, and something else. He came back positive for lyme and so we got antibiotics. Dogs can have lyme for a few months before displaying symptoms.


The prayers are much appreciated.

I will pray he feels better as quick as he was hit with it!!  Dont forget if you have yogurt or probotics give him some with all those antibiotics he is on! 

My LGD gets covered in ticks. We had her at the vet on Friday and he reminded me that the topical stuff was great, but only kills the ticks after they bite, so to avoid Lyme, she would need a tick collar along with the topical.

The only show I know of that requires the LT vaccine is the PA Farm Show. It's one of the main reasons I haven't shown there yet. Maybe some day.

I think the collars may differ....I got one from our family vet that worked great, got our next one from the Surgeon who was spaying our girl and that collar was a complete waste of money.

You made a good decision with that one, be sure you investigate the vaccines. Some people will NOT purchase from you if you have live virus in your flock. Cochins on the diary thread already ran into this.

it looks like Propoxur and S-Methoprene to battle fleas and ticks is the combo to use.

I will research this more come spring and bookmark the site. everyone on my English Springer Spaniel page asks me what I use. I dont want to mislead them, and I will also send a message out to my vet and see what his thoughts are on it.

"SHAVINGS KEEPERS" - This sounds like what I need for my indoor chickens. I lose so much out of the front of the cages and it is so aggravating!
How did you make them?

My built in pens:

I just put a 2x4 standing upright and toed in the screws to hold them in front of the doors. They were getting shavings out under the doors. The bottoms of the doors and the pen are already solid to keep the shavings in. I just never thought about them going out of under them.


My breeding cages:

I put plywood around the sides and backs. They still scratch it out the front. It'd be a bit harder to make 'keepers' for the fronts. They would make using the cage doors nearly impossible. I would like to eventually build actual permanent breeding & conditioning pens where the cages are now, but lets wee were we will be living next year before I put more into this shed.

I had issues under my doors too, I ended up adding a SLIDE board on the inside of the door and away from it along my 2x3 framing, now there is a space about 2.5 inches between the door and the plywood free of shavings, and I can pull the boards out for an easy clean out. I have plywood on the outsides all the way down through but it didnt keep the shavings from jamming the door and making closing a pain.
