Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Oh, man, Harrisburg is so doable for me, especially since my sister and I are going to the Farm Show on Saturday*, but I don't have a coop yet. I don't think an indoor flock is a good idea with 5 cats. I did enter a contest to win a coop but it is not over til Feb.

*What should we look for? I've never been to it and would love some pointers. Should I leave my wallet at home?

Lol well since they are bantams they are small and won't get very big. They will be ok inside for a while with the cold temps. I work across the steet from the farm show just let me know if you change your mind by pm me. I'm not always able to keep up with the thread:)

Anyone going to the farm show on the 4th, I'd love to meet the people from on here! Any ideas on how to know who's who? My idea is a sign with everyone you want to meet usernames on, anyone here have any other ideas?

LMP-------I also am beginning to think of my garden! I lost my good link to a source for dwarf fruit trees that can be grown in containers...........If anyone knows a source for these I would LOVE THAT

I also found myself spending nearly 2 hours browsing and selecting seeds from a garden catalog-----all my choices went in a wish list...........but still.........it was a dedicated search.

This year will be a very busy building time with all my ideas

build some new raised beds for better and bigger veggie garden
build a new coop----wood or plastic with a variety of materials and skill sets!
raise 3-4 chicks indoors from day old til they can go outside.............
oh so that means build or set up a brooder ( this wont be so hard.........just gotta gather stuff and do it)
brooder must be cat proof.

now keep in mind------I am not a lady of leisure-----I have a lot of work to do in my REAL job too!

I hope I can do all these things------just looks like the spring is the ideal time for it all to be done........

I better start now ..........and also plan for some things to go into summer/ fall

dreams ------for the yard and garden!

what are your dreams and plans?

I also wanted to say--------I found the New Years Day hatch thread on here and It is so fun to watch the eggs hatching and day olds..........

beware ------it will be addicting and time consuming---

it also fuels the wanting of new chicks!

please feel forewarned!

Hey Lisa and LMP:

I've used Stark Bros before and they had pretty good customer service...if you go that route, you need to get your tree requests lined up as they will sell out of popular stuff..HD also will get some nice stuff in but you need to keep an eye on when stuff comes in, most of my current dwarf trees are HDs...two elberta peaches, two 3-n-1 pears, and a stella cherry....you might check out the BHG sites...http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/fruit/

also, if Pickering Valley feed does what they did last year, the first day old chicks will arrive the last week in Feb....they usually had about 15 varieties at a time about 50-100 of each type and got new shipments in weekly....my first crew stayed inside for eight weeks....(I was really ready to send them outside by then)....

Hope this helps

My advice for Farm Show would be, dress warm enough for standing on the bus stop but not too bulky as you will be carrying your coat with you throughout the show. I usually wear a wool sweater. free admission, $10 parking, bus from parking to show. Pack your beverages and bring them with you as the drinks are pretty pricey, $3.50/Pepsi, if I remember correctly. Check out the website above for what day you want to go. The poultry is there all week, but the other livestock is not always there. Also check the arena schedules to see the shows you're interested in. We like the barrel racing so will shoot for that.

Chickenboy100, & Chippysmom: we may be there on Saturday, I'm not a name tag kinda girl, if I do decide to wear one, it will say something like 'cleopatra' , 'Queen Latifa' or 'Papa Smurf'.

Stake-----this helps a lot!

You are consistently sooooo helpful!   thanks!

X2, and Lisa, I love the idea of looking ahead to the projects ahead! I think I'd like a better chick brooder and may work on one of them.

ChippysMom, thanks for the goat link, I have a friend who's been searching for a mini Nubian buck, hope it helps her.
