Ok y'all win with the treating wattles and combs with something for frostbite, my CCL have a few small spots! Some say SKIP Vasaline and use bag balm because it hardens from the wax and protects better, makes alot of sense to me..... BUT someone hook me up with bagbalm lol what is it exactly and where do I get it. If I have DH stop and ASK for BAGBALM they will probably throw him out of CVS no?????

HA! makes me think about christmas day when family was here.  I dont remember how it even came up but we got into the discussion of Mother falling in the chicken run and being unconscious and the chickens eating her.  gasps, not me her....  they wouldn't do such a thing, your chickens are so nice!

muwhahhaaaa ummmm mother, chickens are beggars and if I fall and die in my run they would start pecking and eating me in less than 24, she has been upset ever since! LOL

edit to add: my older sons where here and they then proceeded to mom that what is left of the bodies I feed to the dogs.......  ha ha ha

Ha, funny! My run is full of Turkey carcass, hog bones and chicken bones from all the leftovers. They tore up my leftovers, roast pork and sour kraut, chicken noodle soup,  I am making myself hungry!

LOL so moral of the story is DO NOT MISTEP IN THE CHICKEN RUN or the Hog Run for that matter!!! bawahhahhaaaa

Hmmmm...bones in my run? Those would be from the mean roo I cooked & fed to the flock so they sould get even...lmao
The cats typically get all of my carcasses betore they make it to the coops. If they smell meat in the scrap bowl you get swarmed until you give it up...lol

It's really called Bagbalm. Little green can with raspberries on it. Also works well for diaper rash but was originally developed for cow udders. Udder Butter is another giod choice. Also originally developed for cows but very popular as a hand moisturizer. Another excellent choice would be Lansinoh which is pure lanolin & used by breastfeeding mothers.

careful, bag balm has been changed over the years, many people now use it for hand cream, they have added lots of oils to it.....if you want the original stuff you will need to go to a farm store and get it from the dairy section....It is a little pricey.

Lansinoh is also a bit expensive ($7-9 per tube) but it is pure enough to be safe to go in a baby's mouth. It works great for chapped skin & lips. It comes out of the tube very thick & must be kneaded between the fingers to make it pasty & slippery. You need a very small amount to do the job & a tube lasts a long time. Excellent investment.

They have it at tractor supply if there is one close by. Put some on my roos the other night, that was quite the fight but I won.

Quote: my neighbor's production house is called cage free open air housing......he has a 2 foot open area that runs the length of the house....might sound good till you stop and think that the house holds 30000 chickens
The health inspector filled me in with ALOT when he was here! very interesting :(

shows how much those store labels can decieve......being a farm family, i see the production places up close, be chicken, pig, cattle...whatever....those horror stories can be very blown out of proportion, but the part of being crowded are very true...now the part that will get me hung.......I understand it.... when your livelyhood depends on using the space that you have, you need to push that space to it's limits.....also if contracted, the farm itself has little say in it, they are controlled by the big business.
