I was reading through the link Heather provided for turkeys....they have black/slate/mottled....in the description(s) they have good descriptions of what crosses make what colors...

Poults ship better than eggs actually. Maybe we can swap a few poults.

I must have missed the link. I have been checking out Porter's website to see what kind of combinations I can make with the birds I have access to. It's also fun to just let them do their thing & see what you get too. Thete's always the possibility your birds are carrying recessive genes you don't know about too.

I'm in Chester County, close to Philly. Quite far from Wheeling.

The Porter site is invaluable, best place on the net for heritage turkey info, IMO. He must sell anything he can hatch, and at a good price. Most people haven't even planned to order their turkeys yet and he's sold out of all the popular breeds (http://www.porterturkeys.com/poultorderpage.htm). He should probably raise his prices, at least for the popular breeds. I wonder if a website could be programmed to optimize the price and availability for something like this. Seems like a fun problem to work on, to maximize profit and customer satisfaction when they order the assortments.

I have been eyeballing Porter's mixed breed poults. If y'all couldn't tell from my chicken collection, I like rainbows in my coops. That would be the perfect way to get a turkey rainbow. I'm just waiting to see if I will have the money for them before they sell out.

Just remembered to check SandHill Poultry to see if they have the list for 2014 out yet, and wouldn't you know the one breed I want is sold out already

I would love to, but the only banty size chickens I have are broody right now so not laying, I have 2 other 'small' hens, but they are mutts, and in the coop with both a small and full size rooster, so no idea how big their babies would be. Wish we could help...
