Give her a warm soak, dry her good & then use a syringe to inject veggie oil into her vent. If there's an egg stuck that may help her move it.
Silkie:
Tried that....gave her a last soak yesterday at dinner time...she went to sleep in my arms in the water....forced some water and meds..by bed time she didn't have enough strength to hold her head up...thanks for the suggestions....
I just love the name Mr. Stumpy! So funny!
What's the difference between 4 and 5 hens? Not much, I figure. We eat a good amount of eggs and I'm wonder if 4 hens won't lay enough consistently for us. Should I add a Leghorn to our order?
Aww...so very sorry to hear that, I'd be heartbroken!Hey Folk:
My sick chook is failing...suspect the ultimate cause was being egg bound...tried a bunch of meds and got her to start eating for a day or so, but, she crashed yesterday....I forced a bit of water and moved her close to the space heater....her buddy is hanging with her....and its just a matter of waiting....really sucks....
I have 1 chicken that is laying eggs with thinner shells and I am getting concerned...how does one push calcium on their birds? I have oyster shell that they can get any time they want, inside their coop & outside in the run area. I feed layer feed from a feed store, they grind it themselves. I'd like to ward off her getting egg bound if possible. Thanks!I had 2 eggbound last winter. Lost 1 & saved the other. Push calcium for your flock. Calcium deficiency was the problem for my girls.
I fermented the feed & then covered the entire top of the bowl full with oyster shell. They couldn't avoid it that way. You wouldn't have to ferment, just dampen the food to make it harder to pick through for the "treat" parts.I have 1 chicken that is laying eggs with thinner shells and I am getting concerned...how does one push calcium on their birds?
