Hey all:
After looking at the long term forecast, we still have a very long stretch of extremely cold weather....I have been giving the chooks who are snowed in to the coop double feed supplies to keep up with their energy needs...
In general, I think chooks are pretty tough...but, a couple of weeks of wind chills near 0 is a lot to ask from a non arctic bird (by the way a pair or arctic owls have been hanging around Barnegate bay)....so, I am looking for Ideas...
I am definitely going to hang a suet feeder in the coop and set them up with a brick a day....
Didn't want to, but I may add a heat lamp....(creates a world of other problems)
Given that the snow will not melt, I will be tossing a couple of apples a day in the coop to keep them per-occupied..(I will core them first)
Was thinking about giving the chooks some jello, I have alot of this sitting on the shelf (any downside?)
Your thoughts welcomed.....
There's always room for Jello!
I couldn't help myself.....
