Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Awesome!
That's another bird on my Wish List.  Polish...any color will do.  Marans, Brahmas, Cream Legbars, D'Uccles, Cochins, Silkies,,,I have too big of a wish listl and not big enough of a coop.  Must remedy this situation when the ground thaws.

Come on Spring!  I got post holes dug to extend the run this past fall. Then DH had no ambition and the posts never got put in.  If that had happened, I'd have finished the rest on my own.  I am just going to have to take it upon myself to put those posts in as well.  Never wait for a man to do a job with you when you can do it yourself.  Should have learned that one from my Mom years ago.

Now to get him to go off on a vacation somewhere so I can get the coop and run enlarged while he's gone and out of my hair.  ^_^

Give me a few weeks to make sure they are pure (I took them out of the pen that had my EE, OE & CL roos in it last night) & check fertility on my young roo. I should have pure hatching eggs available in about a month. I have a gold laced roo over a gold laced, a white crested black & a splash pullet. Not sure what kind of colors that may make. Plus my roo may be carrying blue. He seems to have some blue lacing in places & blue butt fluff.

Add me to the 'Sick of Snow' club. If we get any more snow on top of what's already here, I'll have to put my chicken feed on a sled to get it out to the chickens, instead of driving up to the pens.

Due to DH's hip replacement and him still recovering, the plow isn't on the truck and areas that would normally be kept open are not.

We're lucky that we burn coal rather than wood, since we can go buy another ton when we run low, rather than have to cut and split it. I feel for those of you that are running low on wood.

Oh, & definitely never wait on a man to do anything you can do yourself. It will never get done. The trick to get them in gear is go start on it & they will feel guilty & come help...lol
Yes! I have discovered this. Nag him and bug him to do it or do it with you and you'll wait till your old and dusty before he gets off the darn couch. Go out and start doing it and he'll be right there in a second to see what you're getting into and "do it the right way"

I think Polish crossed with the CCL would be adorable chicks BTW. He does get his license back the end of February and I've been encouraging him to go on a road trip out to his Dad's in Ohio when he does. (Will get him out of my hair for a few days, I love him dearly but I'm soooo tired of him being glued to me because he got his license suspended) Hopefully it'll be warm enough by then that I can get some stuff done outside while he's gone and make room for some of the chicks on my Wish List. ^_^

Quick question...do you find that your Polish get picked on by the other chickens when you have them in mixed company? I've heard that they get bullied a lot because the other chickens can't resist tugging on those tufts on top of their poor heads.

My Bambi gave me a scare today. She loves going outside and staying outside. I let her in and she curled up next to me and was shivering so much. I tripled up a comforter and put in on her and gave her some warm chicken broth to warm her up. She is looking like her self now. Bring on spring and summer!!!!

My banty Polish is in with my layers all large fowl. You can see her in the pictures I posted of my layer run. She is the boss of the run. She has no problem and puts everyone in their place. She is 1 year older than everyone so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Even when she was the younger one she never let anyone push her around.

I'm IN Ohio. You can have him swing by & pick you up some chicks & eggs while he's here!

As for the crests, my birds' crests are messed up right now but pretty sure it was the goats & not the other birds. I've always had other breeds in with this batch of polish & the only birds I ever caught plucking their crests were the guineas. My birds are all used to seeing different looking birds though because I have such a varied flock. No one really sticks out too much when no 2 birds look alike. Some people have trouble with other birds pulling crests. The easiest way to keep this from happening is to raise them together if possible so they are used to seeing the crests as they grow in.

Gaahh, if this doesn't work I don't know what to do....
