If I buy SS chicks again, I'll buy from west York Agway. They are at least pullets compared to TSC' s SS were straight run. I bought 5 chicks at the time and ended up with 3 roos.

We got ours from TSC and ended up with 6-7 Roos out of 12. Yeah not fun. Now I have my SS roo, Chief, the one lucky one that got to stay. He is around 5 now. Am I going to have to worry about fertility issues with him soon due to his age? We always talk about the hens but what about the Roo's?

I guess that's kinda up to you. Right now I have a Speckled Sussex mix roo out of the one Speckled Susex hen. I've seen him go after the one SS hen. I'm hoping I can do a better job of gathering eggs so they don't hatch any babies.

Ok, here's a wired one (at least by my account)....got my first egg from an 11month, two week old chook.....talk about a late bloomer....

Wow! That does seem crazy late all right. Even for a late bloomer.

I've heard someone somewhere mention their pullets born in early October have started laying. I thought that'd be too early yet. Mine were born Oct 1st. I wasn't expecting eggs till Easter.

anybody know how overnight express mail is.....leaving michigan at 1pm today...what are the odds of making it here before 5 tomorrow
When my chicks came from Cackle back in October they shipped on Wed at lunchtime from Missouri and made it to me in Eastern PA by 2 o'clockish Friday afternoon. And that wasn't overnight.

II'd think if yours are coming overnight it should be quicker.

*fingers crossed* for their safe arrival.
