More chick pics! Hillary has been joined by 2 more hardy survivors. When I removed the 2 older ones, I pulled the shells and figure out what hatched. They are all a cross, splash Breda fowl roo over Barred Rock pullets. I was hoping this cross might be black sex links, but I'm pretty sure the splash diluted the black like the barring and both sexes look the same. Or else they are all girls, possible with a group of only 3.
Hillary is the darker one on the left, #2 is the lighter one in the center. Photo bombers are some week old Rhodebars.

There are a number of mills a bit west of us....I have been looking for a really cheap place and hoping to find a bunch of us to go together for road trips to buy in quantity....sounds weird, but so far from place A to place B....the gas costs inhibit the drive unless you are buying really large quantity....Wing's place makes sense if you are will to buy 1000 pounds, but, I don't have room to store that much and it would take me years to use....who knows...
I'm down for a road trip to the feed mill! But I've got a 2 month's supply right now, so it'll be a bit before I'm ready to get another batch.
Come to think of it, how are y'all storing it? We've been using 5 Gallon buckets, but this is sub-optimal since a bag of feed is 2 1/2 buckets. Been looking into some of those stacking plastic bins, but I question whether they will be able to hold up to 50 lbs of feed.
Can I get some pictures of everyone's feed storage systems? Could use some good ideas!
Currently, mine is stacked under the workbench in the garage, but ideally I want to get some 55 gal plastic drums for the layer mix. 5-6 bags will fit at a time poured in. For the chick, goat, cat & dog feed I'd like to snag some of the smaller 20-30 gal barrels. The barrels with screw on or clamp on tops are ideal to keep rodents out of the feed.

He's so stunning! As for the feed storage discussion, people on Craigslist sell food grade 55 gallon barrels all the time, if I were to have more than 5 Chioks, it would be my choice for sure. I'd also love one as a rain barrel. Just sayin'.
