I have used both. I have Durvet right now. It's $4.49 at my TSC. I haven't made an order to Jeffers lately, but the last time I did I got the AgriLabs. I don't see much of a difference other than the color of the water after mixing. ;)

just had an interesting conversation with a co worker,,,they are headed to the dragon tomorrow in search of pheasant meat,,, when they told me what they were willing to pay, I was floored,,,,they said it is a delicasy.....welll when I was growing up that kind of meat only cost you the price of the lead,,,,,,,,how times change.....can you even find wild pheasant in pa anymore..???

by the way, I would love to have a pheasant pen, just do not see much of a market for it.....they are beautiful birds though....

Wing, I am sure you can find folks who raise them....Shooting clubs often buy game birds and set them out in the field....give them an hour or two to adjust, then hunt them...I saw a pen of them out west in Wy when I was shooting sporting clays the pen was huge 50'x100' and two stories tall with bird netting over it...couple of hundred birds...

In PA they stock them in Gamelands...though I there isn't enough habitat to support wild flocks....back in the 1980's when the gov stopped paying farmers not to grow all their habitat went back under the til...by by wild flocks.....

Quote: I am sure that even here there are places that operate under the radar,,,,,but in lancaster county, I could not imaging what would happen if you suggest an organized pheasant shoot or even pigeon shoot,,,,,,,,You would for sure get to meet your local animal activist..

I have had them at my door before, just because someone seen us cleaning a trap out....I wonder what they would of thought if we would of been processing when they pulled in...

I know I should know this...But I am tring to figure out what I want to add to my flock this spring since I lost a few this winter I have some room...I know I want to EE cause they lay blue and green eggs....Which Hens lay the Chocolate eggs?

I recommend looking at this website for info about dark egg and blue egg layers: http://www.whitmorefarm.com/content/5063
Their chick prices are 6 - 7 each, which I think is fair for well bred stock.

Someone here (Ray, I think) has Maren chicks for sale now. IDK if he's close to you. He has an ad up on CL if you search for "chicks".

It can take a while to sex out Ameracauna or Marans if you get straight run chicks, but Welsummers are easily sexed from the moment they are hatched. They (supposedly, my experience is limited) they tend to lay more than Marans, and at least some strains have eggs as dark or darker than the average Maran.

After a lot of research, I bought BBS Ameracauna and Welsummer chicks from Whitmore last fall and I'm very happy with them so far. I kind of wish I had gotten a few more, but they were all they had left.

Sally, have you decided on your meat birds yet,,,,,If you can meet me somewhere in between, i would split an order with you since you do not have room for lots,,,,

I can do cornishx or freedom ranger doesn't matter......you do know that the freedom ranger hatchery is within driving distance for you, they are located just outside denver......

same offer for anyone else,,,,I order meaties off and on all the time,,,,,you can not buy just a few most of the time,,,,if you let me know I can add to an order as long as you are gonna get them within a couple days..(meaties eat to much for me to hold them much longer)

Yep, that was me. I can give you a recipe for a layer mix that's 18-20% protien that I use. All you have to do is check with your local mill & see if they have the ingredients or something similar to substitute in place of missing ingredients. Ask for all/as much as possible organic/non gmo ingredients. I also try to avoud soy as much as possible as soy is actually toxic unless roasted or fermented. I ferment, weather permitting.
If you can't find local I can ship Rainbow Layers. $6/doz plus shipping.
I would love to know your recipe if you are willing go share!!!
