I haven't been getting eggs from my SFH much all winter. Today, I found one reason. A broody sitting on at least 6. I'll let nature take its course, I have no idea how long they've been there. Oh well.I have people that are looking for them, so hopefully a few make it.
I don't mess with my broodies, I let them nest wherever they want. Yes, I lose a lot of chicks, but the strong survive.

It never really gets old though. You won't get so anxious next time with this, but there will be other things. I helped one little breda chick out and he was very weak, kept falling on his back. I fussed over him and finally got him propped up in between the remaining eggs so he could sleep (chickens are not good back sleepers). This morning he is fine, seems to have fully absorbed his yolk sac and is in with the other 19. They run over him a lot, but so far he's sitting up as he should.

Your little escape artist may be the flock leader some day. It also sounds like she is naturally imprinted on people more than the others.

Thanks for the late night help! Funny, the squeaker last night is an Ideal 236 leghorn, a more production type of bird. I'm surprised that one seemed to imprint! Hope your new chickies do well!

Might as well get used top the sound. I haven't hatched in some time and kind of miss it. They never stop! When I had a hundred or so in my living room, it was great company!

I agree with your call with the unmedicated feed. I am trying to keep my girls GMO free, and they will soon be soy free. The reason I got started in the hobby was to have better control over what my family eats. I got everything from http://www.organicfeedmill.com/Products.php and both my girls and I love it.
