Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

you will be very unhappy with a styrofoam incubator...I have trouble with temps just from the sun shining in the window,,,,,this is the reason it is my hatcher,,,it only need to hold temp for a couple days

Wing and others.....I just set my cooler bater thermostat up. Its an STC-1000 and its accurate to .1 degree C....I have mine set at 99.5F and 100.4F....it goes off for about 45 seconds while the temp drops to 99.5 then comes back on for about 2 mins till it goes up to 100.4....beyond what I set there is no variance....I guess some store bought baters don't have the heating capabilities to catch up...seems a flaw in the unit...I am using x2 25W lightbulbs....

Since they don't specify hot or neutral (red and black are both hot to me) I guess it doesn't matter. I always use neutral on water heater thermostats since they are kind of exposed. Otherwise, I don't really worry as long as the wire nuts are secured and taped properly.
I was just curious. I've built three, one digital, one water heater thermostat, one wafer. They've all worked great.

CC:

For my unit, the AC side of the thermostat doesn't care for hot or neutral....for the DC fan, it does not matter, for the Thermostat DC out and the SS relay, the pos and neg do count...

I avoid relays, I've had too many fail at home and work. I understand the AC/DC wiring differences, but thanks. I now wire a ground fault outlet in and wire from there. Also gives me a place to plug in a DC fan if I use one. Sometimes I buy 120v computer fans so I don't need a low volt power supply. I really need to draw up a wiring diagram, just no way to scan it.

I figured everyone may want to see if it works or not.... started a thread

We hated the hot water heater one even with all the drilling and stuff, too much variance. ozexpat on here keeps wondering why I stick with the wafer and not the digitals he uses.

I guess I am older and stubborn if something works perfectly why mess with it right?

Awesome incubator Sally!
Don't incandescent bulbs burn out quickly when switched on and off frequently? That was always my understanding, and the reason I lean toward other heat sources.

Another note, I can't find the original post anymore -- any electrician will tell you to always switch the hot wire, not neutral. There is no benefit to switching neutral over hot and if the switch is off when someone downstream completes a circuit, then the switched hot means no harm done. It's never advisable to rely on hot being switched, but it happens, and I've been guilty of not turning off the breaker, just flipping the switch, before working on the circuit.

Hello, I am trying to get some information from someone who has experience with leg banding their birds. In getting to the point where I have to many birds to know who is who just by sight alone. So I order to keep track for breeding purposes I am wanting to leg band them for parentage and also age etc book keeping purposes. I found leg bands sold in packs of 25 numbered accordingly up to 100. I mainly have Cochins and brahmas and was looking at the 3/4 inch bands, but do also have some wyandottes, barnevelders, ameraucana, and marans. Being they lack the leg feathering and size would the same size for them or should I buy a 25 pack or a smaller size for them? Also with the heavily feathered legged breeds how do you put the leg band on? Do you pluck the feathers or just put it on top over the leg feathers. Thank you for your help. It's my first time buying them so some knowledge would be thankful:) here is a link to the type I was looking at.
