Fisherlady has the best kind of incubator,,,you can not fight nature.

That's an understatement...not only the Silkies, but, that pic of the two SPRs do'in the mama thing side by side is quite unusual from my limited experience....

Don't incandescent bulbs burn out quickly when switched on and off frequently? That was always my understanding, and the reason I lean toward other heat sources.

Another note, I can't find the original post anymore -- any electrician will tell you to always switch the hot wire, not neutral. There is no benefit to switching neutral over hot and if the switch is off when someone downstream completes a circuit, then the switched hot means no harm done. It's never advisable to rely on hot being switched, but it happens, and I've been guilty of not turning off the breaker, just flipping the switch, before working on the circuit.

They do give you a carrier, but I always have to put a leather jacket around the box. My chicks are real biker chicks. Unfortuntely, DH doesn't believe in riding slow. So far, all the chicks have done well with their motorcycle ride home.

How did they let you get 4? Mine requires you get at least 6 at a time.

Some may allow lower #s if they are low on chicks and they are trying to finish off a bin.... if there are only 4 left they would most likely sell them (depends on age of chicks though and if they are getting more shipped or not)

The SPR girls doing the co-broody is my first experience with that also... though I really, really hope they do it again... it is so neat to watch them! I don't know how often 'co-broodies' happen, but I would say probably less than 10% based on the reading I have done. Probably a lot to do with them being raised together, I know someone used to post on the broody thread about a mother-daughter pair that would broody together also...

Sally-----this may be a dumb question............I don't know that much about incubators..............

I was just wondering why your heat source is at the top..............since heat rises?

the light bulbs are heat source--right? and then fans help to circulate the air.............

does it make any difference if the heat is on the bottom or the top of the unit?
