Does anyone know where I can get rabbit meat? Now that I have the peeps, my husband is talking about raising meat rabbits. I want to at least try it first but cannot find a source.

DEVASTATED!!! I was just giving my little one (the tiny one that was on the mend) some molasses water with a dropper and it was fine. I checked its vent to make sure it was clear, and it wasn't. As I was trying to clear it, I didn't realize I had put any pressure on its neck, the next thing I know its limp and bubbles coming out its mouth. I think I broke its little neck. I am so sick, I can't even believe I killed it. It was getting better ten minutes ago, and now its gone. I feel horrible.
agree, asperatedI doubt you actually hurt it hon. I have had them do that. They usually perk up a bit right before they pass. You think they are improving 1 minute & they are gone the next. I lose them most often right after giving them a drink. It seems that the last drink is always just more than they can handle. I think the asperate on it because they are losing muscle control for swallowing. The bubbles would be a sign of that. Nothing you did wrong & nothing you could have done. Just know your baby isn't suffering any more. That's all you can do.

if you have an livestock auction close by, you can buy a rabbit there and butcher it yourself, we don't raise rabbits to eat but when we want one to eat, thats what we do.Does anyone know where I can get rabbit meat? its funny, with the rabbit i have no problem eating it, but my chickens, well, like your parents, i usally send them to the auction, my husband does the killing, i do the cleaning and cooking but i guess the problem is, i KNEW them, i really need to get over this, we also have a couple of beefs out there in the pasture that we might have to eat if i can't sell themGood idea, then you know if you have the "stomach" to process them. When I was a kid we were very successful raising meat rabbits, but only killed one, the rest went off to the livestock auction. We killed and ate chickens regularly, but rabbits we just couldn't do.
Chippysmom, FisherLady, Auroradream, and SilkieSensation,
Thanks for the words of understanding and encouragement. Funny how the little fuzzy butts can grab your heart.
