If anyone is interested... here is a picture of my son's legs, you can really see the swelling that is still present. He has had two X-Ray's now.
How's your son doing? Hopefully he is staying off that ankle and taking it easy. I know how he feels, I have weak ankles and just standing there they give out and I'm on crutches.

Here's the start of my garden. Don't know when I will be able to get out to the garden and start working in my compost and getting it ready to plant.

that's awesome! Do you raise deer? We've only seen 1 deer in our yard since we've moved in but I think they smell the dogs. Last night though, in the field around the corner, we counted about 20 of them just grazing. It was an amazing sight since the most we've ever seen at once was like 7.

We don't raise deer, but we feed them in the winter so we get a lot. I work for a produce store so I take the tainted apples which would normally be thrown out and feed them to the deer. It's actually like at least 20 a day.

What herbs do you grow for your chickens? Thinking ahead to gardening and want to try to grow some herbs that will be beneficial to the chickens.

Domino the rooster out with his ladies enjoying an early evening outing. A closer shot of Domino.
Looks like they are enjoying the time and are very well taken care of!

Deer vs chickens. For some reason I haven't had many of these encounters until recently. At first the deer were terrified of the chickens, but the chickens weren't afraid of the deer. You can see this in my poor quality pictures I took a few weeks ago. I guess the deer eventually realized the chickens are harmless and they now coexist well. I was worried at first of the chickens being trampled because the deer were stomping their legs and I'm pretty sure a chicken went up and pecked it. I didn't really want to intervene though unless havoc went on out there because I'm not there to see every encounter
Thanks for sharing! Those are some great pictures, it must be fun to watch!

I don't grow any, although they do get garden waste, tomatoes peppers melons whatever. They like grass dandelions and such.
When I more they all ruin to the fence hoping I will shoot the grass clippings their way!
Of course sunflowers are popular, as well as most any seeds or ears of corn. Oh, and berries.
As far as herbs per se , I don't grow anything for them. Mine will eat lettuce, but are more interested in the bugs on the roots.
When I weed the garden, most everything I pull gets tossed to them. Except poke. And nightshade. And hemlock. basically, they are my scrap disposal system for all meat and veggie matter, lol.

When I weed my garden I give them the weeds. They loved them. I don't have a lawn to mow, just rocks lol. Gives me motivation to weed the garden, they get so happy when I go into the garden. I am going to try to grow some marigolds for them. They loved the sunflowers I grew. Want to grow more than weeds for them lol. They treat me good so I want to repay them with fresh home grown herbs and flowers. Any other flowers that they like to eat I would love to plant for them. They get kitchen leftovers.

I would experiment with flowers that are human edible, Marigold, nasturtium, violets, stuff like that.
I would avoid strong flavors like onion and garlic. Not sure about mints, dill, fennel, and such. They all seem to have their preferences.
With the amount they eat, I would stick to things that grow and sprout fast. Almost any seed sprout seems popular. Ever thing of planting grass seed in a shallow box like a car litter box? You could put it inside a box with wire top and sides so they can pick at it without getting to the roots. Hey, I might have to try that myself!
