Good evening everyone! Another question from a newbie....

I have one hen that is my biggest and oldest, my black Australorp. She seems to have super loose stools fairly often, I would say diarrhea. She looks great and seems curious and active like the rest. She seems to make the most noise, but it almost seems like she is just begging for treats, I think her voice is a little louder maybe because she is older, not sure. When should I be concerned about illness? I've seen the poop pictures, and her poos look normal, but she seems to have loose poops more than the others. They always have fresh food and water available.

Also, can a chicken eat too much? The other night I picked one up and  the crop was huge! Can they burst their crop from being a pig?

I like studying animal behavior, and the socialization of poultry is fascinating. I noticed today how distressed the last chick to hatch (out of 13 total) was because the others had all been moved to the brooder before she hatched. My theory is that she heard the others while in the shell and after I removed them, the silence caused her to peep very pleadingly, like she felt abandoned. She struggled a lot in there and I soon moved her out to be with the others even though she was a little wet yet. Within minutes of joining the others, she was fast asleep in the middle of the "huddle" thing they do when resting.

She (a splash Breda) is one of the white ones in these pics. The blue ones are also Bredas, and the orange ones are New Hampshires.

Awe so cute!

Speaking of socialization. Tonight I had just about enough from my roos. Long story short they got their own bachelor pad. 8 larger ones put in with 6 bantams. They were not happy!! The little guys kicked some butt. That's what happens when they want to gang up on my Cochin hen. They all get a time out. I'm sure my neighbors thought there was cock fights going on. Oh wait...there was. Everyone settled down since it was near dusk when I did it. Of course they had to be put to bed in their new coop. All of my hens should be much happier tomorrow. I left 2 bantam Cochin and a silkie too in with the girls. Now if the geese would just shut up!!

So did everyone see this? I'll be there April 13th. I'll be on the hunt for a bantam cochin pair.

Augh! I wanna go! I think it's too far from me though, Have fun!

Well I was on Craigslist just checking out chicks for sale and there were Delaware chicks for $2 each and they were just 10 min. down the road. So since they were so close, I went and got 6. When my daughter got home from school I needed to go to TSC. Well I bet you can guess what happened next..... my daughter had taken her own $ and said "Mom they have bantams and I have my own money, so can I please get some?"

Can you say sucker.... yep we came home with 6 chicks. They didn't have any marked down, but the girl told me to come back in a few days.....lol

Here are the Delaware...

Here are the bantams.... any guesses at to what they are?

aweeeee!!

It was such a beautiful day out today that I went out and built a little play pen out in the sun. My babies are about 2 1/2 weeks old now so I thought they'd love it. I loaded them all up in one of those big red buckets and took them out to play. They had a blast running and jumping and stretching their wings and climbing all over me and my kids. Cotton was even stretched out and sunbathing (but I couldn't get that picture to load). The other picture is one of our BCMs. Our suspected Roo, Blue

I use this for all my babies, it goes a LONG way too as the scoop is tiny per gal of water! I swear chicks grow faster, feather faster and I never deal with pasty butt at any time. love it well worth the money, 7.99 http://www.jefferspet.com/vets-plus-poultry-provita/camid/liv/cp/0040957/
