Anyone nearby have turkey eggs available? York/Harrisburg area? I'm doing the turkey hatchathon on here and need to set April 7th. Only looking for 6-7 eggs. I'd like to avoid shipping.
I like studying animal behavior, and the socialization of poultry is fascinating. I noticed today how distressed the last chick to hatch (out of 13 total) was because the others had all been moved to the brooder before she hatched. My theory is that she heard the others while in the shell and after I removed them, the silence caused her to peep very pleadingly, like she felt abandoned. She struggled a lot in there and I soon moved her out to be with the others even though she was a little wet yet. Within minutes of joining the others, she was fast asleep in the middle of the "huddle" thing they do when resting.
She (a splash Breda) is one of the white ones in these pics. The blue ones are also Bredas, and the orange ones are New Hampshires.

Well I was on Craigslist just checking out chicks for sale and there were Delaware chicks for $2 each and they were just 10 min. down the road. So since they were so close, I went and got 6. When my daughter got home from school I needed to go to TSC. Well I bet you can guess what happened next..... my daughter had taken her own $ and said "Mom they have bantams and I have my own money, so can I please get some?"
Can you say sucker.... yep we came home with 6 chicks. They didn't have any marked down, but the girl told me to come back in a few days.....lol
Here are the Delaware...
Here are the bantams.... any guesses at to what they are?

It was such a beautiful day out today that I went out and built a little play pen out in the sun. My babies are about 2 1/2 weeks old now so I thought they'd love it. I loaded them all up in one of those big red buckets and took them out to play. They had a blast running and jumping and stretching their wings and climbing all over me and my kids. Cotton was even stretched out and sunbathing (but I couldn't get that picture to load). The other picture is one of our BCMs. Our suspected Roo, Bluehe was checking everything out and watching over everything lol![]()
awesome what they charge you?Picked up 8 cornish x at tsc. They were discounted and 2 weeks old. First attempt at meat birds. My mom asked me to raise some organic chicken for her.
