My broody was supposed to hatch yesterday. I am completely stalking her now...and I hear Nothing! It's driving me crazy!!
Same here. I'm beginning to wonder if she's a fake. We candled her eggs on day 8 and found 12 of them to have growing babies so we know it's not the eggs. It's her second chance at brooding and hatching. Her first time she had 10 eggs, all fertile and non hatched, so it must be her.

Thanks everyone.
Last year two of our family members died. Um, not sure how many people know this area, but L&K Mills in Benton is owned by my great great uncle - great grandpap's brother. Two family members working at the mill died ast year. One was only 56 or so and had a heart attack in the mill. Another died a couple months later. The last bad year for deaths was 2003 - my father and my great gram passed within a year of each other.
I know it's life and it comes to an end, but why so much all at once? A bit of time in between to mourn would be nice.
Got the call that grandpap was moved to a nursing/rehab home until we get his house set up for him.

I hate the last few days of broody hatches... I know it is neat to watch mama hen and all... but not being able to see what is going on is about enough to drive you to drink!
...although if it is Evan Williams Honey that isn't hard to do for me!!

FIGS!

I know several of you wanted to try to grow figs. I have been spring cuttings in my basement all winter from three varieties. (Yes, there are different kinds] If any one wants to try rooting some, pm me.

I have no idea if they are still viable. I'm really not sure the best way to start them, either.

I'm game if I can get to your neck of the woods...do you know what types? I may try to get some Chester Co folk together for a road trip, April 25 with Wing & company.....at Shady/Green Dragon....

Good news over here. We got our chickens out of the basement and into their pen in the garage(being turned into a barn with 6 pens) they laid in their nest boxes already and one of our whites loves hoarding eggs!

That and for future reference if your tsc orders fron mt healthy and there a super awesome employees their then theyy work withyou. We ordered 25 birds. 10 barred rocks (9 pullets 1 cockerel) 5 of the following gold laced wynadotte, buff orphingtin, black australorp (4 pullets and 1 roo for each set)
They called the hatchery and asked if they could do that instead of the customer(me) getting strait run.

Im so excited.
We also hace 5 assorted bantams in the basement-1 week old. And 10 eggs to hatch on the twelfth.

I may have interest in figs too...............I am doing a new coop building party thing on the weekend of April 26 and 27 so I am not sure about the 25th but keep me in the loop............

My broody is on day 18. Today is the 1st time I have seen her outside eating as well. I'm sure she has but I'll tell ya putting all of the guys into their own bachelor pad made a difference in my girls. They were all running around happy and not up on branches just hanging out. Also got a record # of eggs in one day. 16/21.
