I think I may have nightmares thinking of those poor chicks.

Sounds like a pretty flock! : ) Starting out we had a horrible time. We first acquired 3 RIR hens, and added 5 silkie mixes (which was great) then i fell inlove with silkies online and had to order some. So my hubby and I ordered 15 bantams. 7 silkies and 8 sebrights. when we received them the box was crushed completely, we had 7 survivors of the 20 they sent (they sent extra) 2 were silkies,1 was a golden sebright and the rest were RIR LF roosters which we didnt order. out of that 1 silkie and 1 RIR roo lived. the others had injuries that I tried t treat but couldn't. Needless to say I usually just wait for chick days at TSC now.lol. unless their is a local breeder with ones Im interested in : )But We currently have 5 silkies (3white 2 blue) just sold a few of them. 2 OEGB, 14 (mixed batch of chicks, ee and ameraucana, waiting for them to feather out but I think I only have 3 Ameraucana) a RIR, silkie mix and a silver laced cochin. And i know, tsc chicks are hard to pass up, the silkie chicks get me every year lol. but hey if you have photos of your silkies I can take a look and see if I can see any signs of their possible genders . at 6 weeks I have a good idea of my own silkie chicks genders, but of course thats because I can obseve them ontop of seeing them.
The postal service should be held accountable for that. That is uncalled for. I probably would have cried right there in the post office if I seen that. True disrespect for live and other peoples belongings.

Oh yes I know. it was horrible. When I arrived to pick them up the woman at the post office told me she scanned the box and it had prolific damage. she said over half my order atleast was dead, and if I called anyone she would tell them about the damage herself.I didnt even want to open the box because there was even blood on the outside of the box. But i knew I had to to rescue my little ones that were traumatized by the event. What made me irate was the fact that it was Unmistakable that there was live creatures in the box. between the constant chirping and air holes and straw sticking out of the sides of the box, you can't tell me he "didn't know" OH and the big sign on the front of the box stamped in big red letters letting people know it held Live Poultry. I did make some phone calls. And I did get my money back for my chicks though i didnt want to risk it again. im sure people can order chicks and it be 100% fine, its normal for 1 or 2 to die during shipment from other causes. it was just not an event i want to re-live.

A good reason why I spend most of my time at the farm and not at home, which is in town...

If you have neighbors in close proximity please be considerate with things like wind chimes that make constant noise, not everyone likes the noise....

I know some will say they have the right to do what they want on their own property, which is why I believe high fences make for better neighbors...

And not everyone works daylight hours and gets awake early in the morning. There are those who sleep during the day. Seems most everything is based on those who work 9-5.
And my favorite comment "you work nights, you have all that time during the day, can you help me xyz". Guess what, all the stuff you do after work, I have to do before work, and still function at work, not sit down and relax afterward.

Just a vent. Thanks. Now back to animals :)

They are Black Australorps. They are supposed to be an all black bird with greenish-purple sheen to the feathers. I didn't see any white tips in the pictures I seen. Supposed to be a very good layer and holds a record.  'Some sensational results were made in the Australian program, and one hen set a laying record of 364 eggs in 365 days.' Quoted from the Murray McMurray site. That sounds good to me lol. Hubby wanted me to pick some up when I got the silkies last week but they didn't have them in that week. I seen them and they were half off so I came home with 15. I know some will be roos and hoping to have some females in there.

She's not quite full grown, but I LOVE my BA, Mary Poopins. She is a big girl ( I think she may be a week older than the rest). Here is a pic from a few weeks ago, she is quite a fatty now. :)

We had 4 BA roos in a broody hatch.... 3 out of the 4 went to freezer camp (actually a nice sized bird, so decent as dual purpose) the 4th is still here and is an awesome 'baby daddy'.  We call him Gabby, because even as a youngster he 'talked' to us almost constantly, he is people and dog friendly, takes good care of the girls and is very, very attentive with any of the broodies and their youngsters.  He finds tidbits for the babies and shares with them and tolerates the youngsters jumping on him and being underfoot and even pecking at his comb and wattles... He is a hatchery bird, but worth his weight in gold when it comes to taking care of the broodies and babies in my book!

That makes me feel better, my BA is always a chatty girl too.

I am not really into suing, but the P.O. seems like they need to be held responsible for their carelessness. Too many people have too many issues.
 I think I may have nightmares thinking of those poor chicks.

Agreed! They should be held responsible for damage that is their fault, any other business is.

Yep yep.

Here are some pics of the bantam Cochins I hatched from the eggs I got from a member in Texas. I have at least 4 frizzles...they are so cute!!

Stop with these chick pictures! It's a cuteness overload! I'm going to be driving to get more chicks at this rate. And then I would be in deep doo doo. In every sense of the phrase!

Vent all you want, I am with you on all those issues...
Not sure of the age of your bunnies or what you plan to do with them, but if you process let me know, I wouldn't mind seeing the whole set up done

Thank you :)
that would've been awful to have happen! I would've been calling the hatchery as soon as I got done bawling :( we actually had a really rough start too. These are actually our second group. Our first group we had for almost 3 weeks when our dogs broke into our brooder and killed them all. It happened in a whole 5 minutes that they were unsupervised. I bawled for 3 days. It was a tough lesson to learn. Do you have an email address that I could send pictures of my Silkies to? I'd upload them here but our signal is so bad that it takes hours to get one picture loaded.
