Candled my three duck eggs (day 11 today), and they are all moving so excited now one is moving like crazy, and the other two are moving every now and again i candled a few of my chicken eggs day 4)and im happy to say i have about 5 silkie eggs and of the two i candled they are both growing i didnt candle all 48 eggs, but of the ones i did candle (about 20 )2 or 3 are in fertile one had the ring of death :/ and all the rest are growing so excited

Today is lockdown for my eggs in the incubator!! I hope next week I will be posting pictures of fluffy butts Last time I candled them they were moving around like crazy. I didn't candle them all because I didn't want to handle them all and some were too dark to see anything.

Wing is super groovy

Guys there weren't any fights tonight!!!! The rooster was the agressor at bed time so he went in time out. It was only a small scuffle.

When are you guys planting your vegetables outside? I was thinking strawberries tomorrow?

. I already threw some tomatoes in early in my raised beds. If we get a frost, I'll cover them. I have snap peas, lettuce, regular shelling peas, radishes and Jerusalem artichokes (sunchokes). I tried some carrot seeds, but they didn't germinate, so I will try again.

I had to grow a whole bed of snap peas. They were so good last year, we didn't have any make it into the kitchen for cooking or freezing!

And thyme, lemon thyme, lemon balm, mint, basil, lavender, tarragon, oregano and a partridge in a pear tree.

(The role of partridge in a pear tree this year will be replaced by a Robin sitting on the nest she made on top of our electric meter under the porch. True story!)

I must go back and read the 40 post, but just to let CC know, that incubator that I neglected to check this morning is making a lot of noise, I did not go in the room to check yet, guess I should get a brooder set up..

I candled my incubator eggs today before heading to camp... looks like I'll be able to put 9 out of the 11 we set under a new broody tomorrow when we get home.
The friend who loaned us the bator asked me to set any eggs I got from his old leg horns before we processed them. We only got 2, so I added 4 from our pencil rocks to them so I hopefully won't get a lone chick hatch...if I get really lucky we will have another hen go broody to finish this batch of eggs too.

He is STUNNING. Is he nice?

He was a very friendly and gentle rooster. I would still have him, but during the last part of our hard winter he got sick and no amount of care and medication was able to pull him back out of his sickness. He was an excellent rooster and died while I was holding him. It was tough because he was my favorite rooster.

Wow! Beautiful! Is he always that erect, or is he strutting his stuff for the camera?

He was showing off, but usually he held himself even more erect. More like this.

That's such a bummer. I'm sorry you lost him, so many people I've spoken to lost birds because of this harsh winter. So sad.
